Love seeing news of this stunning TIH gelding who is closely related to current and former members of the herd. His sire is my late TB stallion Templar Spirit, his dam is Liskillen Harmony’s daughter Pagestown Harmony (so a maternal half brother to Nina, and Poppy’s nephew). I think this boy is destined for big things 💫

I’m a bit late with this but here is a recent photo of Ferdi’s very first foal “Cool Infinity” (now 7yo) going double clear and placing 9th of 39 in the 138 1.10m championship at the National Pony Showjumping Championships this past August. He also does a bit of equitation, placing 3rd in Dublin last year with his jockey Charlotte Foley (the rider in this photo).

Cool Infinity was bred by Mary Ellen Rice, who jumped his 128cm grand dam Miss Perfect to Grade A (and won Dublin back in the day). Cool Infinity’s dam, Cool Miss Neat, is by the stallion Boom del Peguil.

Cool Infinity is owned by Yvonne Murphy.

Fabulous Ferdi flew through his SPSS grading in the UK yesterday 🙌

Huge thanks to the hardest working couple I know, Emma and Mark Johnston, who have been standing (and doing a cracking job promoting) Ferdi from their Fenston Stud in Scotland for the last 2 years 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

To quote Emma:

“Connemara stallion “Glenmore Fear Donn” was also on board with us today for SPSS grading… Proving his amazing nature over and again he travelled on the lorry right next to mare and foal like the absolute gentleman that he truely is to then stood all day in temporary stabling with multiple other horses patiently waiting his turn before coming out to wow the judges strutting his stuff and showing off his impressive jump to be successfully SPSS graded.”

It must be the week for Angus progeny updates. This is Blue (Blueberry💞) aka Lionwood Bluesman, Clarrie’s very last foal. Now a 3 year old, he’s had a great social life, growing up living out with his friends in the Scottish hills. All being well he will be presented for grading as a stallion next year. So grateful to his owners Emma-Louise Johnston and Mark Johnston for their stewardship of this special c**t.

This gorgeous gelding is a purebred Angus son, and a full brother to beloved “Duffy” (who I named after his equally fabulous breeders Seamus and James Duffy!). Duffy aka Baby D was the lovely dark bay youngster whose “growing up” adventures I shared on my old profile. This lad, “Morgan”, is every bit as nice as his older brother. Lionwood Kinsale’s Lad had many of these markings. So many that I was once asked if he was coloured 🙈

I’ve seen many Irish Draughts with variations of this marking but until Susan’s post had not seen a Connemara with one. The coat colour genetics of the horse is so interesting!

Colour Chart.. twice this year, have seen this particular marking in the showring - this Connemara at Ballina Agri -Agricultural Show and Pat Murphy's mare at crossmolina Agricultural show and again last Saturday at the Irish Draught Horse Breeders Association - National Show
I'm sure there's some scientific reason that the colour genetic experts can explain how Mother Nature kept her finger on the Fleabitten Grey spray tan button for too long.
There was also a story that an oldtime character had at the ringside years ago about this marking going back to some famous soldier who got wounded in battle and his faithful horse carried him to safety > loyal horses had this marking.. anyone else know this fable?
(Similar to the legend of how a donkey's cross markings were earned from a patient Neddy standing at the cross in Calvary and the shadow was supposedly then 'stamped' on their withers/back 🤷‍♀️)
Won't keep me awake at night wondering but just curious if anyone else ever heard the fleabitten warrior tale?
