A truly unforgettable escape to with the RS6 Avant, the perfect transport along Doolough Valley is a special experience, i learnt about the famine walk steeped in tragic history, there is a cross built in memory of the victims of the “Doolough Tragedy”.
During the great famine in 1849 hundreds of needy inhabitants of Louisburgh set off on foot to Delphi Lodge to seek food from the authorities there. However, they were harshly rejected. On the way back to Louisburgh, many of them died of hunger and frost in the Doolough Valley.
Delphi is tucked away in the heart of Connemara, County Galway, where the views of the mountains as my backdrop for 2 days were nothing short of breathtaking. 🏔️
Originally built in the 1830s, Delphi has deep roots in Ireland’s history , originally a fishing lodge and still that but still welcomes none fishers like myself who just want to join the peace and quiet, which ads to the fact there is no phone signal which was AMAZING and led to rich conversations and interactions with other guests.
What makes this place so special isn’t just the scenery, but the people. The communal dining experience which I honestly thought wouldn’t be for me, but the laughter, the stories ❤️
Massive thanks to Philip for the kind invitation, and to Anne and Mary, two sisters who looked after me so well , two proper Irish mammies and who have been looking after guests for 30 years that alone speaks volumes.
You all made our stay so memorable and truly showed me that West Home feeling🙏
Delphi Lodge until next time …
