👏 Congratulations to Dr Amanda Feery on her new album!

NEST is a sibling piece to a vocal quintet composed by Dr Amanda Feery as part of Eimear Walshe’s 2024 Venice Art Biennale installation, Romantic Ireland. Composed for vocal quintet, organ, and electronics, NEST is a Mass for the Tenant. It is not a Mass in the traditional sense, but I see the piece as a vigil for the tenants of the past and the present. The piece is a critical response to the theme of home in Éamon de Valera's 1943 radio address, 'On Language and the Irish Nation'. With a libretto by Eimear Walshe, the line, 'they come to make a ruin', repeats throughout the piece like a congregational response.

📚 EN6141 Service Learning—taught by Dr. Dermot Burns—offers postgraduate students (and undergraduates via EN2172) the chance to combine literary studies with hands-on experience. Alongside weekly reflective seminars, students complete a semester-long placement in a local primary school, helping children develop their reading and writing skills. 👏📖

Big news! 🎬📚 Our very own Lecturer in Creative Writing, Lisa McInerney, is set to adapt her award-winning novel The Glorious Heresies for the screen! Galway-based film & TV production company have optioned the rights, with Lisa on board as the screenwriter. 👏✨

A little about Heresies: It won the 2016 Women’s Prize for Fiction & the Desmond Elliott Prize, has sold over 100,000 copies, and is published in 11 languages! Lisa, who teaches fiction and screenwriting at the University of Galway, will be bringing her expertise to the adaptation. 🎭✍️

CEO of Danú Media, John Brady, says:
"When we first read The Glorious Heresies, we were immediately captivated by Lisa’s lyrical narrative.
