In the final episode of Moving West, Mary Kennedy meets people who have crossed oceans, returned to their roots, and discovered new opportunities across the west of Ireland.
💐 Born in London, Barbara Ginty spent childhood summers in Mayo before making the move west with her family during the pandemic. Today, she runs You’re Some Flower in Belmullet.
🏚️ Restoration specialist Thomas Quinlan returned from Hawaii to Galway, where he is preserving Ireland’s historic cottages for future generations.
💼 After a decade in Dublin, Kate O’Callaghan-Momberg has returned to Galway to establish her business, Ireland Exclusive, and embrace rural life once again.
💻 Former New Yorker Diarmaid Ó Fátharta now runs an international digital strategy business from PorterShed Galway, showing how global companies can thrive from the west.
👮 Garda Tony McCabe left Dublin more than twenty years ago and has become a familiar and trusted presence in the Westport community he now serves.
👨👩👦👦 We also meet Judith Klug and Joaquin, who moved from Drogheda to Sligo after Joaquin accepted a lectureship at ATU before either had ever visited the town. Together with their young twin boys, they have embraced a new way of life where family, community and opportunity come together.
🤝 Mary also speaks with Minister Dara Calleary about the changing face of the west of Ireland, the opportunities created by remote working, and the importance of investing in vibrant rural communities.
