This week, farmer Brendan Guinan will be taking his bike out for a spin around the roads near the Slieve Bloom mountains close to his Fiorbhia Farm in Portlaoise.

He is preparing for a mammoth cross-country cycle next month to promote regenerative farming. Brendan himself is Ireland’s first biological agroforest farmer.

This is the second time he’s done this trek, having cycled 1,200km from Malin to Mizen Head last year for the same cause. His team of five cyclists visited 10 different farms along the way, to showcase the growth of regenerative farming around the country.

It comes as An Garda Síochána have defended a decision to return a dog to its owner after it was previously seized by gardaí and given into the care of the Kildare Animal Foundation.

A Kildare-based animal rescue centre is calling on the Justice Minister to open a “full and independent investigation” into the garda handling of a dog seizure.
