The July/August 2025 edition of the Africa magazine is out now.
We start by celebrating the Solemnity of the Assumption with a prayer to Mary by Pope Francis.
Fr Emmanuel Barnabas Kumasuun describes the joy experienced by the people of Nangoletirae in South Sudan when their borehole was repaired. As Scripture says: “The waters of a river give joy to God’s city!”
Fr Chris Byrne visits Fr Daniel Njoroge in a new St Patrick’s parish in Turkana, Kenya, where travel and the climate are challenging. It’s a place where humankind has been dated back to 1.5 million years ago. It is a story of faith, hope and joy.

In this issue we have a wide array of articles. The Hare’s Corner series, by Anne Cowley continues with a very informative article on the tremendous harm done to the environment by plastic. Fr Dermot Connolly recounts the history of the favourite prayer of many Catholics, the Hail Mary. Maeve Edwards writes about the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossom which has inspired poets since the beginning of time. A young Malawian man tells his very moving story. He spent three years in prison for a crime he did not commit, before receiving a Presidential Pardon in 2023. He is now an undergraduate at the Malawi University of Business thanks to the support of generous benefactors in Ireland. Education and life are intertwined. Education brings people together and changes lives. You, our readers and subscribers are also changing lives.
