⭐ Flashback to the Irish Animation Awards ⭐

With Culture Night taking place nationwide this evening, we couldn't think of a better time to reflect on the Irish Animation Awards, a unique celebration of Ireland's animation culture. ❤️️

The awards, which took place in May, highlighted all that Irish talent has to offer in the animation industry, from design and art direction to editing and voice acting.

And that’s a wrap on 🎬

The latter half of the day heard an in-depth discussion on how the animation is evolving to adapt to shifts and trends within the industry, encompassing the streaming surge, difficulties accessing finance and distribution, and how animating for children has become “so much more than throwing a good story up”.

Méabh McGovern sat down with Patty Henry Robinson, who shared her story on how she grew from being paid to guard Tom Hank’s parking space and assisting on the set of Kenan & Kel, to becoming Vice President of Production at Nickelodeon Animation!

Artificial Intelligence was brought to the fore during our final panel, where industry experts discussed the impact of the AI revolution, and how to find the balance between creativity, legality and sustainability in this new technological age.

What a start at ! 🌊

Animation Ireland CEO Ronan McCabe kicked off a weekend of insights, creativity and celebration this morning, welcoming a full house of animation enthusiasts to the Galway Bay Hotel.

Rossa Lundberg sat down Green Street Pictures’ Max Minor, sharing invaluable insights into the production of ‘Common Side Effects’, placing emphasis on collaborating with your team, avoiding burnout, and involving the audience in the production process: “This is for the people on the couch. So we put people on the couch!”

Our first panel explored the limitations surrounding financing animation in today’s industry, navigating streaming services, adapting content for a new generation, and the importance of pooling resources and studio collaboration within the industry to build each other up.
