There’s a beautiful Torah idea: ״בכל יום יהיו בעיניך כחדשים״ — Every day, they should be in your eyes as new.

The Torah is teaching us to approach our relationship with Torah and mitzvot each day with fresh eyes, not simply as a continuation of yesterday.

But I think there’s something in that idea that can be carried into every part of our lives.

Every morning we wake up to a day that has never happened before. Yet so often, we walk into it carrying yesterday with us. Yesterday’s mistakes. Yesterday’s pain. Yesterday’s bad mood. Yesterday’s version of ourselves.

What if instead, we learned to see each day כחדשים, as something new?

A new chance to make a different choice.
A new chance to try again.
A new chance to grow.
A new chance to see ourselves, the people around us, and our lives with fresh eyes.

Yesterday can teach us. Yesterday can shape us. But yesterday doesn’t have to come with us everywhere we go.

Don’t wake up carrying yesterday. Let every day be new in your eyes.

We live in a world that constantly tells us faster is better. Reach the goal faster. Heal faster. Grow faster. Get to the next step as quickly as possible.

But sometimes, slow is fast.

When we rush through the process, we skip steps. We miss lessons. We build things on foundations that aren't ready to hold them yet. And eventually, we find ourselves going backward to fix the things we were in too much of a hurry to do right the first time.

Real growth takes time.

There is value in slowing down enough to actually experience each step. To learn what it has to teach us. To build the habits, strength, and foundation we’ll need for whatever comes next.

Taking your time doesn't mean you're falling behind. It means you're building something you won't have to keep rebuilding.

Whatever goal you're working toward, don't be so focused on getting there quickly that you forget to get there properly.

Slow is fast when you're building something meant to last.

It's so easy to spend our lives looking in the wrong direction.

We replay conversations we can't change. We worry about situations that haven't even happened yet. Before we know it, we've completely missed the only place life is actually happening.

Right here.

The present moment is where healing happens. It's where growth happens. It's where we connect with the people around us, appreciate what we have, and make the choices that shape who we become.

Yesterday already had its turn. Tomorrow will come when it comes.

For now, just be here.

Peace begins the moment you stop living in yesterday or tomorrow and start living in today.

We spend so much of our lives mentally living everywhere except where we actually are.

We replay conversations we can't change. We carry mistakes that have already happened. We worry about situations that may never come. In doing so, we often miss the only place where life is actually happening: right here, right now.

The past is over. The future isn't here yet. But this moment...this moment is yours.

This is the only moment you can breathe in. The only moment you can choose kindness, healing, gratitude, growth, forgiveness, or love. The only moment you can truly live.

Peace isn't found by rewriting yesterday or trying to control tomorrow. It begins when we gently bring ourselves back to today, back to this breath, back to this moment.

Life has always been lived one present moment at a time.

Don't miss today because your mind is living somewhere else.

Regression has a way of convincing us that we've lost everything.

We have one bad day, one setback, one unhealthy choice, one anxious moment, one missed workout, one difficult week, and suddenly it feels like we're right back where we started.

But that's almost never true.

Growth was never meant to be linear. It isn't a straight line from point A to point B. It's full of twists, setbacks, lessons, and moments where it feels like we're moving backward. Those moments aren't proof that we've failed. They're often just another part of moving forward.

One step backward never erases the hundreds of steps you've already taken.

It doesn't erase the healing you've done, the habits you've built, the strength you've gained, or the person you've become.

When you find yourself regressing, don't start over. Start from experience.

Take a deep breath, remind yourself how far you've already come, and keep walking.

Because regression is often part of progression.

We've all done it.

One frustrating conversation. One mistake. One unexpected bill. One bad text. One thing doesn't go our way.

And suddenly, we've convinced ourselves that the whole day is ruined.

But here's the truth:

A bad moment and a bad day are not the same thing.

Sometimes, all that happened was five difficult minutes. The other 23 hours and 55 minutes are still waiting for you. Don't hand them over so easily.

Our minds have a tendency to take one painful moment and let it spill into everything else. We carry it into our work, our relationships, our conversations, and even into the way we speak to ourselves.

What if, instead, we paused and reminded ourselves:

"That was a bad moment....not a bad day."

Learning to separate a moment from the rest of your day is one of the greatest gifts you can give yourself. It doesn't erase what happened. It simply keeps it from becoming bigger than it needs to be.

Don't give five minutes' permission to steal twenty-four hours.

Wishing you a week filled with the wisdom to let difficult moments stay exactly where they belong: moments. 💛

"The greatest gift in life is that it keeps going."

No matter what happened yesterday, life keeps handing us another moment.

Another sunrise.
Another breath.
Another opportunity to try again.

The world doesn't get stuck on yesterday. The sun still rises, the seasons still change, and time keeps moving forward. Nature itself reminds us that our job isn't to stay trapped in what was. It's to keep going.

That doesn't mean we ignore our pain, our mistakes, or our losses. It simply means we don't build a home there.

Every minute we're given is an invitation to step back into the present moment and continue writing our story.

Some days, moving forward looks like taking a huge leap. Other days, it looks like getting out of bed, taking one deep breath, and making it through the next hour. Both count.

The fact that life keeps moving is one of its greatest gifts because it means we always have another chance to learn, heal, grow, forgive, begin again, and become.

Life keeps going.

Maybe that's its gentle way of reminding us that we can, too. 💙

Life has a way of handing us things we never asked for. Pain, disappointment, setbacks, heartbreak, loss, and challenges that can leave us asking, "Why is this happening to me?"

But what if we asked a different question?

What if instead we asked, "What is this trying to teach me?"

We all have a choice. We can move through life, seeing ourselves as victims of everything that happens, or we can become students of it all. We can choose to believe that every challenge, every detour, and every difficult season carries within it an opportunity to learn, grow, heal, and become.

This doesn't mean that everything that happens is easy or fair. It means that even in the hardest moments, there is something here for us.

Some of our greatest growth comes not despite our struggles but because of them. Some of our deepest healing comes when we stop asking, "Why me?" and start asking, "How can this shape me?"

Everything that happens in our lives has the potential to move us closer to the people we're meant to become.

Maybe life isn't happening to you.

Maybe, in ways you can't yet see, it's happening for you.

From the streets of Jerusalem to communities across America.

This August, our founder, Shmuel Russell, will be traveling throughout the United States to share the story, mission, and future of Makom LaLev.

What began as a small grassroots effort has grown into a lifeline for individuals facing homelessness, mental health challenges, addiction, and isolation. Every week, our volunteers walk the streets of Jerusalem offering food, support, human connection, and hope to those who need it most.

As we continue to grow, we know that meaningful change is built through relationships and partnerships.

We're looking to connect with individuals, families, synagogues, schools, community organizations, community leaders, and anyone who believes in the power of helping others.

Whether it's hosting a parlor meeting, arranging a speaking opportunity, making an introduction, or simply helping us expand our network, we'd love to connect.

Together, we can build the future of Makom LaLev and reach even more lives.

If you'd like to meet with Shmuel or help connect us with your community, please reach out.

Speak to yourself like someone you're responsible for helping, not someone you're trying to tear down.

Most of us would never speak to a friend, loved one, or someone struggling the way we sometimes speak to ourselves.

We'd offer patience.
We'd offer encouragement.
We'd remind them of their strengths.
We'd help them get back up when they fall.

Yet when it comes to ourselves, we often become our own harshest critics.

The truth is that we deserve the same compassion, understanding, and care that we so freely offer to others.

Learning to speak kindly to ourselves isn't selfish. It's necessary.

If we constantly tear ourselves down, ignore our own needs, and refuse to extend ourselves the same grace we give everyone else, eventually we run out of what we need to show up for the people around us.

The relationship we have with ourselves shapes every other relationship in our lives.

When we learn to encourage ourselves, care for ourselves, and speak to ourselves with kindness, we become stronger, healthier, and better equipped to support those we love.

So today, pay attention to the voice in your head.

Ask yourself:

"If someone I loved was carrying what I'm carrying right now, how would I speak to them?"

Then try speaking to yourself that way.

You might be surprised by how much healing can begin with a few kinder words.
