This Wednesday (tomorrow!!!) we're hosting an evening of gaming, art, and philosophy, as part of a collaborative residency by KakdelArt and Herzl House.

The Great Perhaps is the name of the residency, and also the title of a hauntingly relevant indie video game, in which an astronaut from the future returns to an Earth devastated by catastrophe — drifting between the complexities of the past and the ruins of the future in order to survive.

On his deathbed, the French philosopher François Rabelais is said to have uttered the words: “I go to seek a great perhaps.”
Death is the ultimate unknown. In the moment before it, all that remains is the present — and perhaps, a moment later, even the past ceases to exist. And what awaits in the future?

According to transcendental meditation, true presence in the now — letting go of the past and the fear of the unknown — allows for profound growth.
But how can we stay in the present in a world that refuses to forget, that acts out of revenge and power, and gestures toward a future filled with violence and collapse?

What is the role of creation, of art, of play in such times?
Can cultural tools that weren’t born as political become instruments of survival, resistance, care, or comfort?

In this gathering, we’ll step together into the world of this indie game and let it open space to reflect on the time and place we live in.
We’ll play, talk, and explore questions of meaning, creativity, and playfulness — in uncertain worlds.

In Uncertain Worlds
🎮 Playing “The Great Perhaps” game. Discussing art and philosophy

As a part of collaborative residency by KakdelArt and Herzl House, artist Romy Arden aka KattaKitta is hosting an evening for artists to explore creation, existence, and uncertainty.

▶️ Watch the trailer for “The Great Perhaps” — a poetic indie game in which an astronaut returns to a ruined Earth, traveling through time in search of what was lost and what remains.

🗣 Discuss the phrase “I go to seek a Great Perhaps,” the game’s themes of uncertainty, memory, destruction, and survival — and how video games, like other art forms, can express philosophical reflection, artistic resistance, and the search for meaning. Especially in times of war and collapse, like those unfolding in Israel, Ukraine, and Russia.

🎮 Enter a shared gameplay session — together and apart.

✨ An inspiring experience last Thursday ✨

We had the chance to take part in a unique gathering with amazing creators working in the XR field — the realm where our heart beats the strongest.

Makor Foundation, which traditionally supports documentary, fiction, and animated films, has opened its doors (and funding!) to new media and immersive experiences in recent years.
Projects like Bystanding: The Feingold Syndrome by Nim Shapira & Roi Lev, Plastisapiens by Miri Chekhanovich and Édith Jorisch, and The Burner Boys by Nofar Laor & Ronny Daniel were just a few incredible examples.

Yes – there's a dedicated XR department (!) and it’s not just about funding – they actively foster global collaborations, knowledge sharing, and community-building.

The event took place at the Institut Français in Tel Aviv – a major partner in international XR cooperation. We heard inspiring talks from XR creators supported over the last years, met key figures from the foundation and the local scene, top producers from the European XR industry, Israeli documentary makers from Kan 11 – all leading exciting innovations in content and storytelling.

📉 One surprising stat, shared by Fred Volhuer (co-founder of Atlas V Group – a world-leading immersive production studio): There are only about 6 million regularly active VR users globally. I was honestly shocked.

📈 But the good news, according to both Fred and Michele Ziegler (Director of NewImages Festival in France) : Location-Based Experiences are booming!

And that excites us deeply – because immersive experiences in physical spaces are where our creative passion truly thrives.
This event filled us with inspiration and motivation to keep pushing forward with Kattakitta Studio’s vision – crafting meaningful immersive journeys that bridge reality and imagination, physical and virtual spaces.

Sharing a sneak peek of our latest work-in-progress!

This purple-azure character, wearing a rabbit head helmet, walks in circles on a balloon-like torus surrounded by dreamy, floating shapes ✨ The entire environment was crafted to bring her surreal world to life, from rigging and animations to interactive effects, all built in Unreal Engine ✨

This project may one day evolve into a video game - stay tuned for updates and let us know what you think!

✨ Wrapping Up the Year ✨

As the year comes to an end, so does Changing Skins, Yesterday marked the close of the Imperial Wonderland exhibition, featuring

Changing Skins — Kattakitta Studio’s debut public project.
With video projections transforming the space into evolving environments, two female virtual figures became living canvases, embodying the visuals on their own skin. This project was a true multimedia creation, blending custom-built scenes, cutting-edge software, hardware, and physical design.

Thank you to everyone who visited and supported us on this milestone journey. Here’s to creating more inspiring experiences in 2025! 💫

Many thanks to the amazing curator Yaara Sachs and the whole production crew, it was a pleasure✨
