Mass Rally in Manipur Demands Release of Six Naga Civilians

The magnificent Ujjayanta Palace was built by MAHARAJA RADHA KISHORE MANIKYA of the Manikya dynasty.

Construction began after the old royal palace was destroyed in the devastating 1897 earthquake. The new palace was completed around in 1901.

The palace was designed in Indo-Saracenic architectural style, blending Mughal, European, and classical influences. It became the royal residence of the Tripura kings.

Today, Ujjayanta Palace serves as the Tripura State Museum and is one of the most famous landmarks in Tripura.

BIR BIKRAM KISHORE MANIKYA

Last ruling king of Tripura before merger with India.
Founded institutions and planned modern Agartala.
And donated land for what later became Maharaja Bir Bikram University and the airport area.
Merger with India
After the death of Bir Bikram in 1947, the kingdom was governed by MAHARANI REGENT KANCHAN PRABHA DEVI on behalf of the minor prince.
Tripura officially merged with the Dominion of India on 15 October 1949 through the Tripura Merger Agreement.
