Due to the current global and domestic circumstances, the country's economic situation is going through an extremely critical phase. In such a scenario, the government frequently advises the general public to be austerity-minded regarding fuel and electricity consumption. But does this rule of austerity apply only to the ordinary, hardworking people?
On one hand, while the middle class is being urged to save fuel, on the other hand, mega-events like the IPL are going on with grand pomp and splendor. Is the massive amount of electricity consumed every day in these huge tournaments, and the enormous amount of fuel spent on the commute of VIPs and spectators, not a sheer waste?
Running a country or a state requires proper education and balanced foresight. Before putting pressure on the common people, these luxurious and extravagant events should have been reined in.
Yet, during this time of acute economic crisis, the Finance Minister is nowhere to be seen to answer the legitimate questions of the common people. The current silence and visible lack of principles from the country's Ministry of Finance regarding the economic situation are deeply concerning and unfortunate.
