CONDOLENCE MESSAGE

The Hmar Studentsโ€™ Association, Assam Hills Joint Headquarters, expresses its profound grief and sorrow at the untimely demise of Mr. Samuel Changsan, Executive Member of the NC Hills Autonomous Council, who passed away on 1st April 2026.

Mr. Samuel Changsan was a dedicated leader and a committed public servant whose contributions to the welfare and development of the people will always be remembered. His vision, leadership, and unwavering service to the community have left a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire generations to come.

His sudden departure is an immense loss not only to his family but also to the entire District and all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. In this moment of deep sorrow, we stand in solidarity with the bereaved family and pray for strength and comfort to help them endure this irreparable loss.

We pray that the Almighty grants eternal peace to the departed soul and gives courage to the family members during this difficult time.

May his soul rest in peace.

HOLY CROSS HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL TO INTRODUCE HMAR MIL SUBJECT

Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar โ€” one of the well-known and reputed schools in Silchar town and the Barak Valley โ€” has made a significant and commendable decision. Alongside other subjects such as Bengali, Hindi, Assamese, and Alternative English offered under different language groups, the school authorities have officially decided to introduce Hmar MIL as a regular subject. This has now been included in the schoolโ€™s Academic Curriculum and Prospectus, which is a matter of great joy and pride.

Hmar students from different places who come to study at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar, will now be able to choose Hmar MIL as a subject. The teaching of Hmar MIL at Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar first began in 2018 through the initiative of dedicated individuals, with all necessary requirements and expenses personally supported by Dr. Vanlallien Pulamte.

Starting from the 2026 Academic Session, HMAR MIL has now been officially incorporated into the curriculum and prospectus of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School, Silchar. This achievement brings immense happiness, and heartfelt appreciation is extended to Dr. Vanlallien Pulamte for his continuous efforts and valuable contribution toward the community.

HPC-D (Assam Region) Signs Memorandum of Settlement with Assam Government

Guwahati, March 15, 2026:
In a significant development for peace and stability in the hill areas of Assam, the Hmar Peopleโ€™s Conventionโ€“Democratic (HPCโ€‘D) Assam Region has officially signed a Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) with the Government of Assam today.

The agreement comes after years of dialogue and negotiations between the two sides. The settlement is expected to address the political concerns and developmental aspirations of the Hmar community living in Assam, particularly in areas of Dima Hasao and Cachar districts.

Leaders of HPC-D (Assam Region) expressed hope that the MoS will bring lasting peace, improved governance, and greater development opportunities for the people of the region. The Assam Government also reiterated its commitment to resolving long-standing issues through peaceful dialogue and inclusive policies.

The signing of the MoS is being viewed as an important milestone toward peace, reconciliation, and socio-economic development in Hmar-inhabited areas of Assam.

The Hmar Welfare Development Council (HWDC) will be formed for Hmar-dominated areas in Assam as per the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) signed today.

Ms. Nicy Vanrohlu, daughter of Mr. LC Kima and Mrs. Lalnithang has successfully completed her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the Department of Zoology at Mizoram University. She was formally awarded the PhD degree during the 20th Convocation Ceremony of the university held on March 7, 2026.

Her research topic was โ€œEffects of nanoparticles on the testicular activity of mice.โ€ The study mainly investigated how copper nanoparticles affect male reproductive organs and functions. Her PhD thesis was written under the supervision of Dr. Vikas Kumar Roy.
