Students Undertake Immersive Conservation Study Tour at Rajabhatkhawa- Buxa Tiger Reserve (west)
Final semester students of the , and programmes at "Dooars Academy of Technology & Management" (DATM College) spent an enlightening day (15 May 2025) at the Rajabhatkhawa Nature Interpretation Centre, gaining first hand insight into forest management and wildlife conservation in the Dooars.
Three Session Knowledge Marathon
1. Forest Management & Sustainable Development
Presenter: Mr. Mrinmoy Dutta Roy
Students were introduced to forest management protocols, ongoing conservation activities, and the ecological significance of the Buxa Tiger Reserve—one of India’s richest biodiversity hotspots.
2. Vulture Conservation Centre Briefing
Presenter: Mr. Soumya Sundar Chakraborty
The cohort learned about India’s pioneering efforts to revive critically endangered vulture populations through scientific breeding and habitat protection at Rajabhatkhawa.
3. Butterfly Conservation & Field Visit
Guide: Mr. Tamoghno Sengupta
A guided walk through the Butterfly Park highlighted species diversity, monitoring techniques and community based conservation models.

A seven member faculty team mentored the 40 participants:

The visit was preceded by a formal request (28 April 2025) from DATM Director Mr. Sumit Bhattacharya to the Deputy Field Director, Buxa Tiger Reserve, seeking approval for the students’ capstone research titled “A Study on Forest Management, Ecological Well being, Wildlife Conservation, and Sustainable Socio Economic Development in Alipurduar and Bordering Regions.”
Outcome....
The one day exposure has enriched students’ understanding of sustainable development and opened avenues for data driven academic projects that align management education with pressing environmental challenges in North Bengal.
