Senior State Leader Among Five Killed in Private Plane Crash in Western India

In a tragic aviation disaster, a private aircraft carrying a senior Indian state leader crashed in western India on Wednesday, killing all five people on board. The incident has sent shockwaves across the country and triggered an outpouring of grief from political leaders and the public alike.
According to aviation authorities, the aircraft, a Learjet 45, was flying from Mumbai to Baramati in Maharashtra when it crash-landed near the runway while attempting to land. Moments after impact, the plane burst into flames, leaving no chance of survival for those on board. Emergency services rushed to the site, but all five occupants were declared dead.
Among the victims was Shri Ajit Pawar (66), the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra, a prominent political figure and a key leader in the state’s governance. Also killed in the crash were two staff members accompanying the Deputy Chief Minister and two crew members operating the aircraft.
Initial reports suggest that the crash occurred during the landing phase, a critical stage of flight. The exact cause of the accident is yet to be determined. Authorities have confirmed that a detailed investigation has been initiated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to ascertain the reasons behind the crash, including technical failure or adverse weather conditions.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several national and state leaders expressed deep sorrow over the untimely demise of Shri Ajit Pawar, remembering his long public service and contribution to Maharashtra’s political life. The Maharashtra government has announced official mourning as a mark of respect.
