A shocking incident from Bangladesh has triggered widespread outrage after a Hindu man was lynched by a mob over alleged blasphemy amid growing unrest in the country.
According to media reports, the victim, identified as Deepu Chandra Das, a garment factory worker, was attacked on Thursday night in the Dublia Para area of Bhaluka in the Mymensingh district. He was accused of making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad. Without any verification or investigation, a mob allegedly surrounded him, beat him with sticks, tied him to a tree, and later set his body on fire.
Bhaluka Police Station duty officer Ripon Mia confirmed to BBC Bangla that the deceased was Deepu Chandra Das. A video of the incident has since gone viral on social media, drawing strong reactions.
The West Bengal unit of the BJP condemned the killing, comparing it to the Murshidabad violence in April 2025, where two Hindus were killed during protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill. BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya also reacted sharply, calling the lynching a brutal example of unchecked extremism and warning about the dangers faced by minority communities.
The killing took place amid widespread violence across Bangladesh following the death of student leader Sharif Usman Hadi. Several protests have turned violent, with incidents of arson, vandalism, and attacks on media houses and establishments linked to the Awami League. Demonstrations were also reported outside the Indian Assistant High Commission in Chittagong, where protesters raised anti-India and anti-Awami League slogans before police intervened and dispersed the crowd.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh during the ongoing unrest.
