Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj prays for unity within Khalsa Panth as per teachings of Guru Sahib

Jathedar Gargajj appeals to community to embrace Guru Sahib's message of unity

FROM AMRIK. SINGH
AMRITSAR JUNE 6
The Shaheedi Samagam (Martyrdom Congregation) commemorating the June 1984 Ghallughara (holocaust) was held today at Sri Akal Takht Sahib in a completely peaceful and spiritually united atmosphere. On this occasion, a Gurmat Samagam (religious congregation) was organized by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) with the support of various Sikh organizations including Damdami Taksal, Nihang Singh Sampradas, and Singh Sabhas.
Following the concluding ceremony (bhog) of Sri Akhand Path Sahib and Gurbani Kirtan, Jathedar Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj, Acting Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib and Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib, offered the concluding Ardas (Sikh prayer). In front of Guru Sahib, he paid tribute to all martyrs of June 1984, including the 14th Head of Damdami Taksal great Sikh 20th-century community’s martyr Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Khalsa Bhindranwale, All India Sikh Students Federation President Bhai Amrik Singh, General Shabeg Singh, and Baba Thara Singh.
He appealed to the community to unite in their efforts for the release of all Bandi Singhs (Sikh political prisoners), including the Zinda Shaheed (living martyr) Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
He prayed for such united strength and efforts of the community, that we could get the Sikh prisoners released.
He recalled that in June 1984, the then Congress-led Indian government launched a brutal military assault using tanks, artillery, and bullets at Sachkhand Sri Harmandar Sahib, right when the entire Sikh community was commemorating the martyrdom day of Sri Guru Arjan Dev. During this attack, even the holy saroop of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, was wounded by bullets. Many Sikh men, women, youth, and children who had gathered for the fifth Guru’s martyrdom congregation were martyred.
The assault extended beyond Sri Harmandar Sahib to other Sikh shrines across Punjab, including the highest seat of Sikh authority—Sri Akal Takht Sahib—which was damaged.
In his Ardas, Jathedar Gargajj prayed for strength, unity, harmony, and togetherness within the Khalsa Panth and sought blessings for the community to follow in the footsteps of the community’s warriors and martyrs.
He also raised concern over ongoing efforts to blur Sikh identity in the country and condemned the government's anti-Sikh policies targeting Sikh Kakaars (articles of faith).
He addressed the issue of targeted killings of Sikhs in country and abroad and asserted that Punjab is the sacred homeland of Sikhs, urging that it should never become a battlefield. Referring to the current state of internal conflict within the community, he prayed before Guru Sahib for adherence to the principle of unity, as demonstrated by today’s united and peaceful commemoration of the June 1984 Ghallughara.
He further prayed that Sikh taksals, religious organizations, and Nihang sampradas remain forever united under the Khalsa’s Nishan Sahib.
Speaking to the media after the congregation at the Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj expressed strong objection to the planned events being held in Batala city under the name ‘Crusade’, in the context of religious conversions. He stated that Punjab is the land sanctified by the Sikh Gurus, and seeds of hatred must not be sown here. He emphasized the need for the Sikh community to respond to this issue with compassion and to embrace those who have drifted toward other faiths. He expressed hope that under the ‘Khuar Hoye Sab Milenge’ campaign started for religious preaching, the issue of religious conversions will be effectively addressed.
The Jathedar thanked all the Sikh organisations and prominent personalities for peaceful commemoration of the June 1984 Ghallughara Shaheedi Samagam.

Majitha Liquor Tragedy: Brahmpura Demands CBI Probe Supervised by High Court Judge

Calls for Resignation of Excise Minister and Chief Minister, Seeks Rs 25 Lakh Compensation and Jobs for Victim Families

“Rs 5 Lakh for Martyrs, Rs 10 Lakh for Victims of Spurious Liquor—What Kind of Justice Is This?” Brahmpura Questions Government Priorities

FROM AMRIK SINGH

TARN TARAN MAY 16

,

Shiromani Akali Dal Vice President and Assembly Constituency In-Charge, former MLA Ravinder Singh Brahmpura strongly condemned the Punjab government’s handling of the recent spurious liquor tragedy in Majitha, which has resulted in multiple fatalities.

While Addressing reporters in Khadoor Sahib Brahmpura called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the Majitha incident, with oversight from a sitting High Court judge, to bring transparency and expose the links between the government and the liquor mafia.

He demanded that families of victims be granted no less than Rs 25 lakh in compensation, that government jobs be offered to one member of each bereaved household, and that the true perpetrators be apprehended and tried in fast-track courts. On ethical grounds, Brahmpura maintained that the Excise Minister and Chief Minister must accept responsibility and step down without delay.

He asserted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has failed to provide effective governance, remarking that decisions appear to be taken at the behest of Delhi, with the Chief Minister reduced to a mere puppet. The incident in Majitha represents a new low in administrative failure and exposes the government’s inability to control the spread of illicit liquor.

Pointing to the situation in his own constituency, Brahmpura highlighted the ongoing neglect of basic amenities and the lack of meaningful development. Despite the passage of time, residents continue to be deprived of necessary facilities, with little tangible response from the Chief Minister’s office.

Brahmpura drew attention to what he called glaring double standards in victim compensation.

He questioned the logic of awarding only Rs 5 lakh to families of war martyrs, while approving Rs 10 lakh for victims of the Majitha liquor tragedy—a situation that directly resulted from administrative negligence and breakdown of official machinery.

He argued that these measures seem more designed to mask governmental shortcomings and protect those involved with the liquor mafia, rather than provide genuine relief or justice to affected families.

He further recalled the state’s lack of sensitivity in the case of the young fireman Gagandeep Singh from Moga, who died heroically while earning a mere Rs 10,000 monthly salary, yet his family received no aid. In sharp contrast, he noted, leaders such as Jammu & Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah have acted swiftly and compassionately in comparable crises, offering substantial compensation—setting a standard the Mann government fails to meet. He also praised the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee for extending support to victims’ families in Poonch, urging Punjab’s leadership to draw lessons from such proactive initiatives.

Reflecting on previous tragedies, Brahmpura noted the heavy politicization of the spurious liquor disaster in Tarn Taran-Amritsar-Gurdaspur in 2020 by the current Chief Minister, who was then in opposition. Today, under his administration, similar incidents like those in Sangrur (2024) and Majitha have continued, with allegations of local police complicity persisting and investigative processes such as SIT inquiries serving only as token gestures, rarely resulting in accountability for those at the top.

Brahmpura was joined by a significant gathering of local residents and party supporters, including Megh Singh, Ranjeet Singh Pappu, Gajjan Singh, Kashmir Singh, Iqbal Singh Bamra, Dalbir Singh Dhadi, Sarup Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Jagir Singh Dubai, Sahib Singh Bittu, Paramjit Singh, Gurcharan Singh Rinku, among others.
