๐ 6 Essential Car Fluids Must Know โ Keep Your Engine & Brakes Running Smooth:
Cars rely on various fluids to ensure smooth operation, reduce wear, and maintain safety. Each fluid serves a specific purpose within different systems of the vehicle:
1. Engine Oil lubricates the internal components of the engine, reducing friction and preventing overheating. It also helps clean the engine by carrying away dirt and particles. Over time, it breaks down and must be replaced regularly.
2. Transmission Fluid is used in both manual and automatic transmissions. It lubricates moving parts, cools the system, and enables smooth gear shifting. Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) also acts as a hydraulic fluid in auto gearboxes.
3. Differential Oil, also called gear oil, lubricates the gears in the differential. This thick oil withstands high pressure and ensures smooth power transfer to the wheels, especially during turns. It is commonly found in rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
4. Brake Fluid is a hydraulic fluid used in the braking system. When you press the brake pedal, this fluid transfers that force to the brake calipers to slow or stop the car. It must maintain a high boiling point and be free from moisture, as contaminated fluid can reduce braking efficiency.
5. Power Steering Fluid helps the power steering system provide easy and responsive steering. It allows smooth movement of the steering wheel with minimal effort. Leaks or low levels can cause stiffness and noise while steering.
6. Engine Coolant, or antifreeze, circulates through the engine and radiator to absorb and dissipate heat. It prevents the engine from overheating in summer and freezing in winter. Coolant also protects against corrosion inside the cooling system.
