“میرا کبھی طریقہ نہیں رہا ہے کہ دوسرے علماء کی تحریروں کو خوردبین لگا لگا کر دیکھتا رہوں اور جہاں کسی کی کوئی بات مجھے ایسی ملے جس پر گرفت کی جا سکے، اس کی خبر لے ڈالوں۔

زبانِ وحی سے کلام تو یہ لوگ بھی نہیں کرتے، ان کی ہر بات گرفت سے بالا تر نہیں ہوتی۔ کوئی اگر ان کے پیچھے پڑ جائے تو ان سب کے ہاں سے ایسی باتیں تلاش کر کے نکال سکتا ہے جن پر شور مچانا اور لوگوں کو ان کے خلاف بھڑکانے کی کوشش کرنا آسان ہے۔ لیکن یہ بیہودہ کام نہ میں نے کبھی کیا ہے اور نہ کبھی میرے دل میں یہ خیال آیا ہے کہ ان فضولیات میں اپنا وقت صرف کروں۔

البتہ اِن گروہوں میں سے بعض حضرات (سب نہیں) میرے ساتھ یہی زیادتی کرتے رہے ہیں۔ ان کے پاس اس کے لیے کافی فرصت ہے کہ میری تحریروں میں سے ڈھونڈ ڈھونڈ کر ایسی عبارتیں نکالیں جن پر اعتراض کیا جا سکتا ہو، اور ان پر تحریر و تقریر اور نجی گفتگوؤں میں لوگوں کو یہ تاثر دیں کہ میں ایک بڑا ہی بد عقیدہ اور گمراہ آدمی ہوں!"
