Poor road connectivity annoys residents of Bijbehara, Arwani

Residents of Bijbehara , a popular tourist destination in Anantnag district of south Kashmir Thursday expressed their anger over the poor condition of the major road in the area. They urged the government to take concrete steps to address their demand of repairing the road so that the Town becomes a major tourist hub in real terms.

The dilapidated Bijbehara Arwani connecting strategic Shopian South district of Jammu and Kashmir is causing tremendous inconvenience to the residents especially for the orchardists during the apple harvesting season. The concerned administration has turned blank eyes on the project to restore it to its normal glory which makes life in the area evenly miserable.
A local resident of Bijbehara , said he has repeatedly raised the issues pertaining to the Town with government officials but nothing has happened on ground so far.

*PDP Organises Workers' Meeting in Anantnag West Ahead of Party Foundation Day*

In preparation for the upcoming Party Foundation Day, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a workers' meeting in the Anantnag West Constituency. The meeting was attended by party workers and key leaders, with Advocate Sheikh Javaid, the District President, as the chief guest.

While addressing the media, Advocate Sheikh Javaid launched a scathing critique of the ruling dispensation. He remarked, “The government has completed 10 months in power, and the public has already started forming their judgment. The coming days will make it clear who truly stood by the people and who merely made promises.”

He further added, “If we praise ourselves, they accuse us of self-glorification. But the people will decide who delivered and who disappointed.”

The meeting highlighted PDP’s continued grassroots engagement and its commitment to representing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Shopian witnessed a complete shutdown today, the first since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, as residents protested the relocation of the Deputy Chief Education Officer (DCEO) office from the district’s Mini Secretariat to Chitragam, the native village of Zainapora MLA Showkat Hussain Ganai.
Shops and businesses remained closed across the district, with traffic movement partially affected. The call for shutdown, led by the All Party Council, drew support from multiple political parties, civil society groups, and trade associations.
Locals alleged the relocation was politically motivated and a deliberate injustice to Shopian residents. They have demanded the government immediately reverse the order and restore the DCEO office to its original location.

The protest marks the first major shutdown in Shopian since 2019, reflecting growing public anger and unity across political lines in the district.
