Police arrests a drug peddler in Awantipora, contraband substance recovered

October 02: Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drug trafficking from its gross root level, Police in Awantipora have arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

A Police party led by incharge Police Post Reshipora under the supervision of SDPO Awantipora Shri Mumtaz Ali Bhatti during naka checking near Panzgam crossing intercepted a suspicious person who tried to flee away from the spot but was apprehended tactfully. During search, officers were able to recover 17Kgs of grinded Cannabis Powder concealed in 03 Nylon bags from his possession. He has been identified as Bashir Ahmad Dar son of Mohammad Ashan Dar resident Panzgam Awantipora. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.

Accordingly, a case vide FIR No. 220/2022 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Awantipora and further investigation has been initiated.

Moreover, a police party of Police Station Awantipora launched a special b**g destruction drive at village Charligund and destroyed wild b**g. General public of the area have widely appreciated the action taken by the Police and assured their full cooperation in future as well to eradicate drug menace from the society.

Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding cultivation of contrabands in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling & cultivation of contraband substances shall be dealt as per law.

Sofi yousuf demands hassle-free movement of fruit-laden trucks on Srinagar–Jammu National Highway.

Srinagar: Senior Vice president J&K Bharatiya Janata Party Shri Sofi yousuf demanded a priority of passage to fruit trucks on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway.

According to a statement issued here, Sofi yousuf has urged the J&K L.G administration to ensure a priority of passage to the fruit-laden trucks on the Srinagar Jammu Highway.

He said two weeks ago, we approached Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha and requested him to ensure that the road is thrown open for the halted trucks laden with perishable fruit. Thankfully, he directed the concerned officials to regulate these trucks on the highway. Last night, we were informed that the road is being cleared for the halted fruit trucks. I appreciate the efforts by the concerned authorities for throwing the road open for these trucks. But at the same time, I would like to ask them why they didn’t make some efforts 15 days ago and why they let these trucks remain halted for such a long period?’’

He demanded that perishable fruit-loaded trucks should be given priority on the highway.

He said, “Given the pathetic economic condition of people here, and given the fact that a dominant majority of the Valley’s population is dependent on the fruit industry for their livelihood, authorities should ensure that fruit trucks should be given smooth passage on National highway,he added
