Baramulla Administration Seeks Verification of Journalists to Curb Misuse of Media Identity

Baramulla, Nov 3: The Office of the District Information Officer, Baramulla, has issued a circular directing all media persons operating in the district to submit their credentials within seven days as part of a verification process aimed at curbing misuse of media identity and impersonation.

The directive, issued in compliance with the orders of the Joint Director Information Kashmir (vide No. INF/K-Estt.2091-98/2025 dated October 31, 2025), instructs journalists to furnish their information and credentials as per the checklist provided in Annexure A to the office of the District Information Officer.

According to the circular, the move seeks to “protect the sanctity of journalism” and counter the “growing menace of fake journalists,” while ensuring a transparent system for authentic media professionals to operate within the district.

The circular further clarifies that only those media persons who are “duly validated and authenticated” by the uDistrict Information Office will be permitted to attend official government functions, press conferences, and cover visits of VIPs and VVIPs within Baramulla district. Unauthorized or unverified individuals, it states, will not be entertained under any circumstances.

Copies of the circular have been forwarded to the District Magistrate Baramulla, Director Information & PR J&K, Senior Superintendent of Police Baramulla/Sopore, and Joint Director Information & PR Kashmir for necessary information and action. [KNT]
