The Great Auroville Tree Drama

Once upon a time in the mystical land of Auroville, where incense swirls meet existential swirls, a humble tree-felling plan blossomed into a full-blown theatrical protest.

Aurovillagers— enlightened beings on a mission to reach supramental consciousness through dramatic wailing, and generous helpings of spiritual gibberish.

Backed by their ever-wise Crook Mentors they rallied in hoards, staged pseudo-revolutions, and wept over tree stumps while planning the next full moon festival, behind the camera.

In the end, the trees cleared, the drama dissolved, and Auroville quietly evolved into something a little less performative, and a little more grounded.

The Reality of the City of Truth | RTI

Since 2019, when the enquiry committee formed by the previous governing board recommended investigations by CBI, ED, NCB, NIA, and IT into Auroville matters, the institution has been tirelessly working to cover it up. Escaping Law in the name of a Human Experiment: Auroville

A troubling pattern of functioning has persisted within Auroville Working Groups for decades, characterized by what appears to be an undue influence on investigative authorities. Under the guise of being a "separate nation above law and government," Auroville has unfortunately harbored numerous instances of criminal activity. These crimes have been concealed by influential individuals within the community, to maintain a facade of purity, while leaving countless victims without recourse to justice.

The recent appointment of an active IPS officer to the Auroville Foundation is a step in the right direction. However, it is concerning that their role appears to be primarily administrative, and there remains a glaring absence of a complaint or redressal system within Auroville since 1983.

No individual or community is above the law, and it is essential for Auroville to uphold the principles of accountability and justice.

Despite the self-proclaimed purity of Aurovilians, it is evident that the reality may not always match the image projected. It is time for transparency and accountability to prevail, ensuring that justice is served for all and that Auroville truly lives up to its ideals.
