قلم بدست ھوں حیران ھوں کہ کیا لکھوں
میں تیری بات کے، دنیا کا تذکرہ لکھوں

لکھوں کہ تُو نے محبت کی روشنی لکھی
ترے سخن کو ستاروں کا قافلہ لکھوں

جہاں یزید بہت ھوں حسینؓ اکیلا ھو
تو کیوں نہ اپنی زمیں کو بھی کربلا لکھوں

ترے بغیر ھے ھر نقش، نقشِ فریادی
تو پھول دستِ صبا پر ہے آبلہ لکھوں

مثالِ دستِ تہہِ سنگ تھی وفا ان کی
سو کس طرح انہیں یارانِ با صفا لکھوں

حدیثِ کوچۂ قاتل ھے نامۂ زنداں
سو اس کو قصۂ تعزیرِ ناروا لکھوں

جگہ جگہ ھیں صلیبیں مرے دریچے میں
سو اسمِ عیسیٰ و منصور جا بجا لکھوں

گرفتہ دل ھے بہت شامِ شہر یاراں آج
کہاں ھے تُو کہ تجھے حالِ دلبرا لکھوں

کہاں گیا ھے مرے دل مرے مسافر تُو
کہ میں تجھے رہ و منزل کا ماجرا لکھوں

تو مجھ کو چھوڑ گیا لکھ کے نسخہ ھائے وفا
میں کسطرح تجھے اے دوست بے وفا لکھوں

شہید جسم سلامت اٹھائے جاتے ھیں
خدا نکردہ کہ میں تیرا مرثیہ لکھوں

وہ لوگ بہت خوش قسمت تھے
جو عشق کو کام سمجھتے تھے
یا کام سے عاشقی کرتے تھے
ہم جیتے جی مصروف رہے
کچھ عشق کیا کچھ کام کیا
کام عشق کے آڑے آتا رہا
اور عشق سے کام الجھتا رہا
پھر آخر تنگ آ کر ہم نے
دونوں کو ادھورا چھوڑ دیا

ہر شخص کی نظر میں وہ محبوب ہو گئے،
جو لوگ تیری ذات سے منسوب ہو گئے۔

سب اپنی مصلحت کے پرستار تھے اور ہم،
اپنی انا کے دار پہ مسلوب ہو گئے۔

تیرا خیال، تیرا تصور ہے زندگی،
ہم جیسے تیری یاد میں مجذوب ہو گئے۔

تم وجہِ زندگی ہو کسی اور کے لیے،
ہم تو غمِ حیات کے مطلوب ہو گئے۔

تم کھو گئے یوسفِ بے مصر کی طرح،
ہم بھی فغاں و گریۂ یعقوب ہو گئے۔

Har shakhs ki nazar mein wo mahboob ho gaye,
Jo log teri zaat se mansoob ho gaye.

Sab apni maslehat ke parastaar the aur hum,
Apni anaa ke daar pe masloob ho gaye.

Tera khayal, tera tasawwur hai zindagi,
Hum jaise teri yaad mein majzoob ho gaye.

Tum wajah-e-zindagi ho kisi aur ke liye,
Hum to gham-e-hayat ke matloob ho gaye.

Tum kho gaye Yusuf-e-be-Misr ki tarah,
Hum bhi fighan o giriya-e-Yaqub ho gaye

रोज़ तारों को नुमाइश में ख़लल पड़ता है
चाँद पागल है अँधेरे में निकल पड़ता है

एक दीवाना मुसाफ़िर है मिरी आँखों में
वक़्त-बे-वक़्त ठहर जाता है चल पड़ता है

अपनी ताबीर के चक्कर में मिरा जागता ख़्वाब
रोज़ सूरज की तरह घर से निकल पड़ता है

रोज़ पत्थर की हिमायत में ग़ज़ल लिखते हैं
रोज़ शीशों से कोई काम निकल पड़ता है

उस की याद आई है साँसो ज़रा आहिस्ता चलो
धड़कनों से भी इबादत में ख़लल पड़ता है
