*Budgam Police Arrest Drug Peddler; Contraband Recovered*

Budgam, February 15, 2026:

Continuing its drive against drug trafficking, Budgam Police arrested a drug peddler and recovered approximately 31.93 grams of a charas-like substance from his possession in the Bathar area of the district.

A police team from Police Station Budgam, led by ASI Ghulam Mohammad, intercepted a suspicious individual during naka checking at Bathar crossing near the Railway footbridge. The suspect attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended. The contraband, wrapped in corn husk, was seized following due legal procedures.

The accused has been identified as Rayees Ahmad Mir of Mohanpora Ompora, Budgam.

FIR No. 35/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Budgam, and further investigation is underway.

Budgam, February 14, 2026:

Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Budgam Police arrested a drug peddler and seized contraband in the Beerwah area of the district.

A police party from Police Station Beerwah, led by HC Mohammad Ayaz, during routine Naka checking near the Service Station at Beerwah, intercepted a suspicious individual. On noticing the police presence, the individual attempted to flee but was promptly apprehended.

During his personal search, approximately 59 grams of charas-like substance, wrapped in corn husk, was recovered from his possession. The accused was arrested on the spot, and the contraband was seized in accordance with due legal procedures.

The arrested individual has been identified as Zahoor Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Hameed Bhat, a resident of Sunergund, Budgam. In this regard, FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Beerwah, and further investigation is in progress.

Budgam, February 09, 2026:

Budgam Police, continuing their crackdown on drug trafficking and other illegal activities, arrested a drug peddler in the Magam area and apprehended three persons involved in gambling in separate operations.

A police party from Police Station Magam, led by HC Maqbool Ahmed, during routine patrol at Railway Link Road, Mazhama, intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number JK15B-7709. Upon search, 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (without labels) were recovered from the vehicle, and 07 strips of Tapentadol tablets (100 mg) were recovered from the personal possession of the driver. The accused was identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Ghulam Nabi Sheikh, R/o Kanihama, and was arrested on the spot. Accordingly, FIR No. 13/2026 under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Magam. Investigation is underway.

In another operation, acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Budgam, led by PSI Aarif Mushtaq, raided a gambling spot near Ompora Railway Crossing and apprehended three persons. During the raid, ₹4,600 as stake money and playing cards were seized. The arrested persons were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Raqib Ahmad Ganie, and Abdul Hameed Hajam, all residents of Ompora, Budgam. Accordingly, FIR No. 29/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Budgam.

*Budgam Police Attach Property Worth ₹50 Lakh in NDPS Case*

Budgam, February 8, 2026:

Budgam Police have attached an immovable property worth approximately ₹50 lakh in Humhama area of Budgam district in connection with an NDPS case.

The attached property, a double-storey residential house, belongs to an alleged drug peddler, Irfan Ahmad Dar, son of Mohammad Ashraf Dar, resident of Humhama. The attachment was carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act in FIR No. 44/2020, registered under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Budgam.

This action forms part of the ongoing crackdown by Budgam Police to curb drug trafficking by targeting the financial assets of those involved in the narcotics trade.

Budgam Police urge the public to cooperate and share information related to drug peddling to help build a drug-free society.

*Budgam Police Solved Gold Theft Case. Stolen Property Worth ₹11 lakhs (Gold) and ₹83 Thousand Cash Recovered*

Budgam, February 5, 2026:

Budgam Police have successfully solved a major theft case by arresting five accused persons and recovering a substantial portion of the stolen property.

Police Station Budgam received a written complaint from Mohammad Yousuf Najar S/o Ali Mohammad Najar, R/o Lakhripora, Budgam, stating that during the intervening night of 16/17 January 2026, unknown miscreants forcibly entered his residence and decamped with gold ornaments and cash.

Accordingly, FIR No. 12/2026 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Budgam, and investigation was taken up promptly.

During the course of investigation, a police team led by the SHO, Police Station Budgam, utilizing human intelligence and CCTV footage analysis from multiple locations, identified and arrested five persons involved in the crime.

The arrested accused are Umar Farooq Dar S/o Farooq Ahmad Dar, R/o Wasikhunrakhi Asham, Sumbal, Imtiyaz Ahmad Guroo S/o Gulzar Ahmad Guroo, R/o Parimpora, Srinagar, Basit Bashir S/o Bashir Ahmad Khan, R/o Pehlipora, Safapora, Ganderbal, Bilal Ahmad Dar S/o Abdul Gani Dar, R/o Safapora, Lar, Ganderbal and Bilal Ahmad Guroo S/o Abdul Rashid Guroo, R/o Wangipora, Sumbal.

All accused are presently in police custody. Stolen property, including gold ornaments worth approximately ₹11 lakh and cash amounting to ₹83 Thousand, has been recovered besides two vehicles used in the commission of crime were also seized. Investigation has also revealed the involvement of three goldsmiths in the disposal of stolen property, who have been identified and booked under relevant provisions of law.

Further investigation is in progress.

DLSA Budgam Organizes National Consumer Day Awareness Programme.

Budgam, 24-12-2025:- The District Legal Services Authority Budgam, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, organised an Awareness Programme on National Consumer Day in collaboration with the Consumer Commission Budgam and TLSC Char-i-Sharif at the Town Hall Budgam.
National Consumer Day, observed annually on 24 December, aims to spread awareness about consumer rights, responsibilities, and safeguards against unfair trade practices and exploitation. The day commemorates the enactment of the Consumer Protection Act, 1986, and highlights the legal remedies available to consumers in cases of defective goods and deficient services.
On the occasion, Mr. Noor-ul-Amin, Officiating President, Consumer Commission Budgam, provided detailed insights into the role of the Commission in protecting consumer interests and sensitized the participants about their rights and
Duties as consumers.

Speaking at the programme, Mr. Nazir Ahmad Wagay, Deputy LADC, emphasized that National Consumer Day serves as an important platform to enhance public awareness about consumer rights and responsibilities. He further highlighted the 2025 theme, “A Just Transition to Sustainable Lifestyles,” which focuses on making eco-friendly choices accessible, affordable, and aligned with consumer rights, thereby empowering consumers for a greener future.
Mr. Yawar Ali, Assistant LADC, elaborated on consumer rights, the key provisions of the Consumer Protection Act, and the powers conferred under the Essential Commodities Act to ensure consumer protection. He stressed the importance of public awareness regarding existing laws and the stringent measures available against violations of consumer rights.
The programme concluded successfully with active participation from Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) and members of the general public including numberdars and chowkidars of the area.

DC Budgam Inspects progress of restoration and repair work on Panzan Bridge;

Reviews Post-Flood Restoration Works;

Examines Proposed Alignment Road Connecting New Bus Adda with Dawlatpora area.

Budgam, December 24:-The Deputy Commissioner(DC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-din Bhat, today inspected the Panzan Bridge on the Budgam–Chadoora road and reviewed the progress of restoration works being executed under the UT Capex Budget at an estimated cost of Rs. 71.25 lakh.
During the inspection, it was informed that the embankment of the Panzan Bridge had sustained damage due to recent flood incidents.
The DC was assured by the Executive Engineer, PMGSY, that the restoration work has been taken up on priority and is expected to be completed within a period of 20 days, ensuring early restoration of safe and uninterrupted connectivity.
The DC stressed that quality, durability, and safety parameters must be strictly adhered to, and that no compromise shall be tolerated in ex*****on standards.
He further emphasized that frequent field inspections and technical supervision are being ensured to monitor progress and maintain accountability of the executing agencies.
The DC underscored that restoration of public infrastructure remains a top priority of the district administration, particularly in flood-prone areas, and that all available resources are being mobilized for timely rehabilitation and strengthening of damaged assets.
Subsequently, the DC reviewed the ex*****on of multiple post-flood restoration and flood mitigation works being carried out in the Chadoora area.
These include the restoration of drop walls at Karambuland Bridge and Main Bridge Chadoora, flood damage restoration of KLR Road from Km 4th to Km 6th, construction of a crate wall at Quangipora Bridge, and restoration of the link road/approach towards the New Bus Adda, Chadoora.
The DC said that these interventions are aimed at enhancing flood resilience, protecting vital road infrastructure, and minimizing the impact of future flood events.
He issued the directions to ensure inter-departmental coordination, timely release of funds, and completion of works well within sanctioned timelines.
During the visit, the DC also reviewed the proposed alignment of the road connecting the New Bus Adda with the Dawlatpora Road.
The proposed alignment was examined on site, and it was observed that the project would play a crucial role in decongesting traffic, providing alternate connectivity, and improving overall urban mobility in the Chadoora town area.
The DC emphasised that necessary procedural and technical formalities be expedited for early ex*****on of the project.
Later, the DC also interacted with the Drivers’ Association of Chadoora, during which concerns related to transport facilities, parking space, and operational challenges were raised.
The DC assured that the construction of a new conveyance complex is being actively pursued and will be taken up to address the genuine demands of the transport fraternity and to ensure organized and efficient transport operations.
The DC reiterated that the district administration is firmly committed to people-centric governance, speedy restoration of flood-damaged infrastructure, and implementation of long-term mitigation and development measures.
He stated that safeguarding public assets, improving connectivity, and ensuring safety and convenience of the general public shall continue to remain key focus areas of the administration.
Besides , CPO Budgam , SDM chadoora , Exen R&B, Tehsildar Chadoora , EO MC chadoora and other officials accompanied the DC during his visit .
