DC Budgam Reviews Development of Kanihama Craft Village
Directs for Making it Fully Functional, Constitutes Management Committee, Stresses IEC Campaigns ,Social Media Promotion.

Budgam, August 29:The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Dr. Bilal Mohi-ud-Din Bhat (IAS) today conducted a comprehensive review of the developmental works at Kanihama Craft Village, which has been taken up as a Model Craft Village to preserve and promote Kashmirโ€™s centuries-old handicraft traditions.
The DC was briefed in detail about the infrastructure created and works already completed. These include the installation of advertising boards for shops, improvement of the public park near Jamia Masjid Kanihama, upgradation of inner link roads at Hajam Mohalla and New Colony Road, construction of a Chowkidar quarter at the Craft Village, link road improvements and construction of drainage paths with steel grill fencing around the park near the CFC building.
Other important interventions include facelifting of the Common Facility Centre (CFC) building, construction of dedicated weaversโ€™ sheds for artisans, and overall beautification of the site.
To further improve the amenities, the DC directed that street lights be installed across the craft village to ensure better lighting, safety, and an inviting ambiance for visitors even during evening hours.
The DC was informed that most of the works have already been completed, while some are in the final stages.
In total, developmental works worth more than โ‚น300 lakh have been executed to provide roads, public facilities, fencing, artisan sheds, and support infrastructure at Kanihama.
Speaking during the review,the DC stressed that Kanihama Craft Village must now be made fully functional as a cultural and tourist hub.
For smooth management, he announced the formation of a District Level Management Committee, which will look after operations, coordinate with artisans, and ensure proper upkeep of the facilities.
He also directed for dedicated IEC campaigns to promote Kanihama as a dedicated Craft Village in the district and across UT,highlighting its unique crafts and heritage through community events, awareness drives, and exhibitions.
In addition, the DC emphasised the need to amplify the documentary of Kanihama Craft Village on all social media platforms of the District showcasing the life of artisans, the making of famous Kani Shawls, pottery, and other handicrafts.
The documentary also highlight the transformation of Kanihama into a model craft village, which can be used for promotional purposes at tourism fairs, exhibitions, and digital platforms.
The DC instructed for wide social media amplification of Kanihama Craft Village on X and other handles so that the initiative reaches tourists, buyers, and craft lovers at both national and global levels.
The DC said that the development of Kanihama Craft Village is not just an infrastructure project but a mission to protect heritage, empower artisans, and brand Kashmiri crafts internationally. He urged artisans and the local community to participate actively, assuring them of complete support from the administration.
โ€Kanihama Craft Village will emerge as a model hub of Kashmirโ€™s handicrafts and culture. It will not only safeguard our heritage but also provide artisans with better income avenues through tourism, marketing, and global outreach,โ€ the DC said.
Besides GM DIC budgam , CPO budgam , ACD , Executive engineer R&B, representatives from handicrafts departments DIO , BDO and other concerned officers were also present in the meeting.

Under the aegis of Srinagar Sector, CRPF an Inter-Operational Battalions and Group Centre, Volleyball Tournament- 2025 ewas organized by 44 Bn at its Battalion headquartyer at HMT Complex, Zainakote, Srinagar wef 18/08/2025 to 20/08/2025. In this significant tournament, 23 Teams from various CRPF Battalions and Group centre, Srinagar participated. During the closing ceremony, Shri Vivek Bhandral, DIG, Group Centre CRPF graced the occasion as the chief guest. Commandant of various units also graced this occasion. Team 23 Bn, CRPF won the tournament defeating the volleyball team of 61 Bn in a nail-biting match. After the final match, Shri Vivek Bhandral, DIG, GC CRPF Srinagar gave away the medal and trophies to the winner and the runner up team. Addressing the players and gathering, Chief guest impressed upon the importance and role of CRPF in the present scenario. He also deliberated the importance of the games for physical fitness. In the end, he congratulated the officers and men of 44 Bn CRPF for successfully organizing the tournament.
