The smartphone world is once again seeing a clash between Apple and Samsung, with the upcoming iPhone 17 taking on Samsung’s already powerful Galaxy S24 Ultra. Both devices target premium users but approach performance, design, and features very differently, giving buyers two unique flagship experiences.
Starting with the design and display, the iPhone 17 is expected to feature a refined 6.27-inch LTPO OLED panel, finally bringing a 120 Hz refresh rate to the standard model. This means smoother scrolling, gaming, and video playback compared to previous base iPhones. Apple will likely keep the Dynamic Island cutout for Face ID and notifications, while continuing with a sleek aluminum or glass finish. In contrast, the Galaxy S24 Ultra already dominates in display technology with its 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X screen. It supports QHD+ resolution, 120 Hz adaptive refresh, and is protected by Gorilla Glass Armor, making it one of the toughest displays on the market. The Ultra also comes with a boxier titanium frame and S-Pen support, giving it an edge in productivity.
When it comes to performance, Apple’s iPhone 17 will launch with the A19 chip, built on a 3 nm process. This promises higher efficiency, faster app performance, and better AI capabilities. It will likely ship with 8 GB RAM, which may sound modest compared to Samsung but is optimized tightly with iOS 26. The Galaxy S24 Ultra, on the other hand, is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (or Exynos in select regions) and is paired with up to 16 GB RAM. It runs on Android 14 with Samsung’s One UI 6.1, which integrates Galaxy AI features like real-time translation, smart photo editing, and advanced note-taking. On raw multitasking and memory handling, the Ultra has the advantage, but Apple’s efficiency means the iPhone 17 should still feel incredibly smooth in everyday use.
