On September 27, Coimbatore Head Constable M. Velmurugan clung to the roof rails of a speeding SUV for nearly 40 kilometers to stop three suspects fleeing a police interception with approximately 300 kilograms of banned gutka. Following a coordinated pursuit, the vehicle was intercepted near Avinashi, leading to the smugglers' arrest and the seizure of the contraband. Speaking on the daring chase, Velmurugan stated, "I realised the suspects should not be allowed to escape, so I held on to the rails tightly till they were captured. As police personnel, we were just doing our duty". In recognition of his bravery, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C.
