Baramulla, February 12: In a significant outreach initiative, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today presided over an Awareness Camp cm Block Divas at Town Hall, Kunzer. The event was organized to bring government services closer to the public, address grievances, and raise awareness about various welfare schemes.

At the outset, the DC inspected the stalls set up by various departments, where officials provided detailed information about key government schemes like PM Surya Ghar (Muft Bijli Yojana), Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP), Vishwakarma Scheme, PMAY and other flagship schemes. These stalls aimed to ensure that locals could easily access the information and resources available under these schemes.

In a further effort to ensure transparency and effective communication, concerned officers briefed the local public through video screens, offering clear and visual explanations of the application processes, benefits, and eligibility criteria for each program which allowed for a more interactive and engaging experience for the public, helping them understand how to take advantage of these schemes.

During the camp, the DC interacted with the locals, listened to their concerns, and emphasized the importance of such outreach programs in addressing community issues and directed officers to ensure that grievances were resolved in a time bound manner, reiterating the administration’s commitment to timely service delivery and people-centric governance.

Furthermore, Minga Sherpa encouraged the public to take full advantage of the various government schemes designed to benefit local citizens, with a particular emphasis on the PM-Surya Ghar initiative, highlighting that the scheme has been specifically introduced to help households reduce their electricity expenses by promoting the adoption of solar energy.

Later, Minga Sherpa distributed Ayush Cards, Sanction Letters, Land Passbooks and other certificates among eligible beneficiaries during the block diwas.

Camp was attended by DDC Member, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Sub Divisional Magistrate Gulmarg, Syed Altaf Hussain Musvi, Superintendenting Engineer JKPDCL,Dalbir Singh, Tehsildar Kunzer, Syed Eyaad Qadri and other district and tehsil level officers besides large number of public of adjacent areas of kunzer tehsil.

To promote cyber awareness about digital safety, District Administration in collaboration with NIC Baramulla organized a one-day workshop on Safer Internet Day under the theme "Together for a Better Internet." at Dak Bunglow Baramulla. The initiative aimed to educate about the growing risks of cyber threats and emphasize the need for responsible digital practices. District Informatics Officer NIC, Raja Ali, delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation on various emerging cybercrimes, including online scams, Bank frauds, Money laundering, Identity theft, Credit card fraud, Data breaches, OTP frauds etc. Participants were encouraged to share their personal experiences with cybercrimes, fostering a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by internet users.

A series of theft incidents has shaken Baramulla's business community, with multiple medical shops and hotels reporting theft over the past few days. Concerned authorities have swung into action, registering cases and launching a search operation to apprehend the culprits.
Local shopkeepers revealed that thieves are targeting establishments late at night, selecting shops with valuable inventory. A pharmacist, whose store was looted, expressed his distress said that they closed the shop as usual, but when they arrived in the morning, the shutters were broken, and essential medicines, along with cash, were missing. Similarly, a hotel owner reported that his reception area was ransacked, with cash stolen from the counter. The police have assured the business community that they are working diligently to catch the culprits and prevent future incidents.

At least 10 passengers were injured in a road accident in Boniyar area of Baramulla. The accident happened after two passenger buses had a head on collusion in Chahal area of Boniyar resulting in injuries to the passengers of both the vehicles. The injured were immediately rushed to PHC Boniyar from where critically injured were shifted to GMC Baramulla for advanced treatment. The actual cause of the accident could not be known immediately but it is said that the accident occurred when buses tried to overtake each other. Police has taken cognizance of the incident and is investigating the cause of accident.

DC Baramulla Reviews Disaster Preparedness and Response Mechanism

Directs for Strengthening Inter-Departmental Coordination, Updating Contingency Plans, and conducting of trainings & mock drills

Baramulla, February 5: In a concerted effort to enhance disaster preparedness and response capabilities, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla convened a review meeting with key departments, including Police, SDRF, Fire & Emergency Services, Health, Education, PDD, PHE, and other essential stakeholders.

The meeting aimed to assess the current state of readiness, identify gaps, and ensure a well-coordinated approach to disaster management across the district.

During the review, the DC underscored the critical importance of a robust and proactive disaster management mechanism, stressing that preparedness is the cornerstone of effective disaster response.

The DC emphasized that in times of crisis, there must be absolute clarity regarding roles and responsibilities, and all concerned agencies and departments should function in a synchronized manner to mitigate risks and safeguard lives and property.

Meanwhile, Minga Sherpa underscored the need for strengthening coordination and communication between civil society organizations, NGOs, and Aapda Mitra volunteers with Tehsil and Sub-Division offices, District Emergency Operation Centers, SDRF, and Fire & Emergency Services to collaborate during emergencies, enhancing disaster preparedness and mitigation efforts across the district.

The DC further highlighted that disaster response should not be hindered by a lack of information, and a well-documented plan must be accessible to all relevant stakeholders, which will serve as a guiding framework, ensuring that each department is well-equipped with predefined protocols and responsibilities.

Additionally, the DC directed the R&B Department to conduct a comprehensive structural assessment of all school buildings in the district to determine their safety and suitability for use to safeguard students and staff in case of any disasters.

Furthermore, all departments were directed to update their contingency plans, conduct periodic mock drills, and ensure the availability of essential resources such as emergency equipment, trained personnel, and communication networks.

The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Raina, ADC Sopore, Shabir Ahmad Raina, Superintendent of Police, Yasir Qadri, ACR Baramulla, Arshad Ahmad Khan, Executive Engineer R&B, tehsildars from all the tehsils, Consultant DDMA, Rehana Fayaz, Aapda Mitra volunteers and others.
