🔴 9 Killed, 29 Injured in Massive Blast at Nowgam Police Station, Srinagar

In a tragic incident late Friday night, nine policemen were killed and twenty-nine others injured after a powerful explosion ripped through the Nowgam Police Station in Srinagar.

Officials said the blast occurred while a team was handling and examining explosive material recently seized from Faridabad during an ongoing investigation into a suspected terror module. The explosion caused severe damage to the building, with several small secondary blasts reported minutes later due to the chemical nature of the materials.

Emergency teams, including police, SDRF, and medical staff, rushed to the spot and shifted the injured personnel to nearby hospitals. Authorities have ordered a high-level inquiry to determine whether the blast resulted from accidental detonation or procedural lapses during examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves across the region, raising serious concerns over the handling and storage of seized explosive materials.

Muddasir Ahmed Wani assumes charge as new ARTO, Baramulla

In a recent administrative reshuffle in the Transport Department of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, Muddasir Ahmed Wani has taken charge as the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) of Baramulla.

His appointment is part of a broader transfer and posting exercise involving several officers of the Jammu & Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) cadre. Earlier reports had noted his posting to a different district (Bandipora) in a previous reshuffle.

Man Posing as Journalist Held for Extortion in Baramulla

Baramulla, Oct 23: In a major crackdown on misuse of media credentials, Baramulla Police have arrested Riyaz Ahmad Mugloo for allegedly posing as a journalist to extort money from officials and individuals through intimidation and blackmail on social media.

Police said Mugloo exploited the image of a journalist to threaten victims and demand money in exchange for not publishing defamatory content online.

A formal case under FIR No. 186/2025 has been lodged at Police Station Baramulla under Sections 308(2), 351, and 356(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigators have reportedly recovered video evidence showing the accused accepting bribes, while digital devices have been seized for detailed examination.

According to officials, Mugloo had also been previously involved in a similar extortion case, using identical tactics to target public servants. His employment with a media organization was terminated recently following repeated complaints about his conduct.

Police said such acts not only amount to crime but also tarnish the credibility of genuine journalists. Baramulla Police reaffirmed their resolve to act strictly against extortion and misuse of media identity, ensuring protection of citizens from blackmail and coercion.

Bilal Ahmad Wani from Sadpora Sopore zaingair Deceased, Another Injured in Sopore Accident. Sopore, Oct 20: A speeding truck struck two Chungi employees on Sunday evening. Bilal Ahmad from Syedpora Sopore succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Shahid Ahmad, son of Hilal Ahmad Shah from Nayidhal Sopore, sustained serious injuries and was transported to GMC Baramulla for medical treatment. An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the authorities.

Srinagar, Oct 18: Mission Kashmir has formally submitted a compliance report to the Joint Director Information, Kashmir, regarding the conduct of its Baramulla-based reporter, Riyaz Ahmad Mugloo. In the letter dated October 18, 2025, the management informed the department that allegations of blackmailing and prima facie extortion were raised against the said reporter for allegedly misusing his official position for personal gains. After internal verification, Mission Kashmir concluded that Riyaz Ahmad Mugloo’s actions had brought disrepute to the institution and subsequently relieved him from his professional duties as Reporter for Baramulla. The letter, signed by Managing Editor Tariq Iqbal, mentions that the organization has complied with the verbal instructions of the Information Department “in letter and spirit” and has accordingly sought the release of its pending government advertisement as per entitlement and existing policy. A copy of the communication has also been forwarded to the Director of Information and Public Relations for necessary action.
