Barbil Police Host Jana Samparka Mela to Foster Community Bonding

BASANTA KUMAR MAHANTA, Barbil: In a significant step towards strengthening police-public relations, the Barbil Police team organized a Jana Samparka Mela, which drew an overwhelming response from over 2000 citizens. The event, aimed at bridging the gap between law enforcement and the local community, was inaugurated by SDPO Debendra Nath Pingua and IIC Ashok Kumar Nayak.

The Mela featured various initiatives, including a Health Camp, which provided free medical consultation and basic check-ups, led by Dr. Rasmi Ranjan Samal. The police team also distributed blankets, study materials to children, and free medicines to the attendees.

Speaking at the event, SDPO Pingua emphasized the importance of community policing, stating that such initiatives foster trust, cooperation, and mutual understanding between the police and the public. The event was attended by prominent local leaders, including Kshirod Mahanta, Ambuj Satapathy, and Bhagaban Chatampa, who expressed their support for the police initiatives.

Executive Officer of Barbil Municipality, Ramesh Chandra Naik, also participated in the event, highlighting the significance of community engagement. The Barbil Police reiterated their commitment to public welfare, safety, and continuous engagement with the community through people-centric programs.

The Jana Samparka Mela was a resounding success, with attendees appreciating the efforts of the Barbil Police in organizing such a meaningful event. The police team hopes to build on the momentum generated by this event to further strengthen police-public relations in the area.

4,600+ Runners Lace Up for Tata Steel Joda Run-a-thon 2025

November 23: The second edition of the Tata Steel Joda Run-a-thon saw an overwhelming response, with over 4,600 runners from across the country participating in the event held at the Central Playground of Joda Municipality area. The event's theme, 'Green Today, Greener Tomorrow,' emphasized the importance of sustainability and environmental consciousness.

The winners of the various categories were:
- 10K Men's: Prashant Choudhary (Uttar Pradesh)
- 10K Women's: Basanti Kumari (Jharkhand)
- 7K Men's: Dhiraj Kumar (Uttar Pradesh)
- 7K Women's: Basanti Mandia (Odisha)
- 5K Boys': Uday Melgandi (Jharkhand)
- 5K Girls': Mamta Kumari (Odisha)

The event was flagged off by dignitaries including Jagdish Kumar Sahu, Joda Municipality Chairman, and Atul Kumar Bhatnagar, General Manager, OMQ, Tata Steel. Speaking at the event, D DHanumanta, Keonjhar DFO, praised Tata Steel for organizing the run, saying it promotes health and fitness awareness and fosters a marathon culture.

The event featured various categories, including 10K and 7K runs for men and women (15 years and above), and a 5K run for boys and girls under 16 years. A special 2K run category was also included for Divyangs, with 84 participants from across the region taking part.

The total prize money pool was ₹5,67,000, with winners receiving medals, certificates, and cash prizes. The event was appreciated by the local community, with Jagdish Kumar Sahu, Joda Municipality Chairman, thanking Tata Steel for organizing the event and promoting physical well-being and community bonding.

The Regional Media Forum, Barbil, organized the National Press Day Celebration at Bikash Mahal, Barbil, on Sunday, November 16, 2025. The event highlighted the role of journalism in nation-building, with a special focus on mining-affected areas like Barbil.

The program was graced by eminent personalities, including the Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Bimbadhar Behera, an esteemed writer. The Chief Speaker was Sri Naresh Chandra Patnaik, a senior journalist. Guests of Honor included Sri Bhubananda Naik, Addl. Tahasildar and and Sri Ashok Kumar Nayak, IIC, Barbil.

The celebration emphasized the importance of a free and responsible press in promoting transparency, accountability, and sustainable development of society . Invited guests discussed challenges faced by communities and the role of ethical journalism in addressing these issues.How disinformation Journalism affecting credibility of this noble profession was elaborately discussed.

The Regional Media Forum invited media loving eminent public and students of Barbil Degree College to this event . Previously a essay writing competition with a topic of 'Role of Journalism for the development of Society ' was held at Barbil Degree College . Rastrapati Awardee renowned Art Teacher Sri Manas Das was felicitated. Simultaneously Chairperson of Draupadi Devi School For Specially Abled Barbil Smt Nalini Agarwal was also felicitated for uplifting disabled children to mainstream social fabric by employing different special therapies .
The function was presided by Mr Girdhari Lal. Secretarial speech was given by Basanta Kumar Mahanta, stage anchoring was done by Prasanta Mohanty,Manoj Sahoo and Rasananda Behera.In the end vote of thanks given by Basanta Mahapatra.All RMF Executive members Sajjad Alam,Sankar Konar,Purna Mohanty and Pradipta Kumar Dhal play their respective roles for conducting the press day program.

Traffic jam returns to it's reputation of period from 2000 to 2008 today - w n 01of municipality got cut off from main Barbil ULB area - with such infrastructures how can industries like Steel as well as Plant sustain ? How can public maintain their day to day life ? - the importance of of Barbil is the suitable solution - the sooner it is materialised the better it is.
