A fresh 5.9-magnitude earthquake struck Indonesia’s Flores region early Monday, adding to the devastation caused by a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit the area earlier.

According to Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the latest tremor struck at a depth of around 10 kilometres. The death toll from the earlier 7.7-magnitude earthquake has risen to 54, while authorities continue rescue and relief operations.

More than 12,000 people have been left homeless, with homes and public facilities damaged across the affected areas. Preliminary assessments indicated that 157 homes were severely damaged, while 41 suffered moderate and 148 sustained light damage.

Several critical infrastructure facilities, including hospitals, educational institutions, healthcare centres and administrative offices, were also affected.

Rescue teams have been deployed to provide medical assistance and evacuate injured residents. Authorities have also mobilised land, sea and air transport, including aircraft and helicopters, to reach remote areas.

Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a tsunami early warning following the major earthquake, but later lifted it after confirming there was no dangerous sea-level rise along the affected coastal areas.

The government has stepped up relief efforts, with emergency supplies being dispatched to the affected region as authorities continue assessing the full extent of the damage....

Janata Dal United (JDU) Condemns National Conference Government for Broken Promises and Internal Chaos; Majority of NC MLAs Dissatisfied with Leadership

SRINAGAR, Jammu & Kashmir— The Janata Dal United (JDU) has launched a scathing attack on the ruling National Conference (NC) and the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, holding them fully accountable for failing to fulfill pre-poll promises and plunging the region into administrative paralysis.
State General Secretary of JDU, Ayaz Darwi, released a strong statement today, revealing that the majority of NC MLAs are deeply dissatisfied with the party's leadership, which has proved entirely incapable of working in alignment with the expectations, aspirations, and sentiments of the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
Darwi stated that the ruling dispensation has completely lost touch with the ground reality, trading governance and development for internal friction and political posturing.
Highlighting the growing disillusionment across the valley, Ayaz Darwi emphasized the core sentiment of the party's stance:

Kashmir Needs Accountability, Not Blame Games
The people of Kashmir deserve a government that delivers, not a government caught in internal disagreements.
The ongoing blame game among NC leaders raises serious questions about leadership, coordination and accountability. NC MLAs must seriously introspect and understand that power without performance is meaningless.
A government is like a candle its purpose is to provide light to the people. If there is no light, people have every right to question its purpose.
NC MLAs must think beyond party politics and work for the people of Kashmir. Kashmir needs performance, unity and accountability—not excuses and blame games.
JDU reiterated that the people of Jammu & Kashmir are tired of hollow slogans and deferred dreams. The party urged all elected representatives to rise above narrow partisan interests and address the pressing developmental and economic needs of the region before public anger boils over into mass agitation.
JDU warned that if the NC leadership fails to course-correct immediately, the party will intensify democratic protests across the Union Territory to hold the government accountable for its monumental failures.
