Bernardo Silva Proud to Lead Manchester City F.C. as Captain
Manchester: Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva has expressed immense pride after leading the club out as captain, describing the moment as one of the biggest honours of his career.
The Portuguese international, who has spent nine years at the Etihad Stadium, said he now feels “a little bit Mancunian” despite not being born in the city.
“For someone that is not from Manchester, but stayed here now for nine years – and also now feeling a little bit Mancunian – it makes me very proud,” Silva said.
The 29-year-old midfielder emphasized his deep emotional connection with the club, stating that he sees himself not just as a player but also as a lifelong supporter.
“The day I eventually leave, I can assure you I will always support this club. I feel that I became a part of this club and also a fan of this football club, not just a player,” he added. “After these many years to be able to wear the armband, it’s obviously a massive honour.”
Silva also highlighted how Manchester has become central to his personal life. During his time in England, he began his relationship with his wife and welcomed his first daughter.
“I’ve spent years and years of my life here. Nine years. This is the place where I started the relationship with my wife, this is the place where I had my first daughter, so it became a massive part of my life,” he said.
Although his daughter was born in Portugal, Silva revealed she moved to Manchester when she was just one month old and is growing up in the city.
Looking to the future, Silva said Manchester will always hold a special place in his heart.
“Even when I’m like 60 years old or something like that, I will always remember this city as a massive, massive, happy period of my life – not just my life, but my wife’s life and my daughter’s life.”
Silva’s emotional tribute reflects his long-standing commitment to Manchester City and underlines his deep bond with both the club and the city.
