Three private ambulances were recently reported at a building collapse site in Delhi.

This raises an important question: why are private companies becoming part of emergency ambulance services in India?

Figures cited by Delhi’s Health Minister show that the government ambulance fleet increased from one hundred and fifty-five in twenty fourteen to two hundred and sixty-one today.

But the reported average response time also increased, from thirteen minutes to seventeen point four minutes.

Blinkit says its ambulances can respond in around nine minutes on average.

So why are private companies increasingly becoming part of India’s emergency response?

And if private companies are filling a gap, shouldn’t we ask why that gap exists in the first place?

Because when there is an emergency, every minute matters.
