🚨 In a heartwarming gesture in Karnataka, Naveen Hulihalli gifted a brand-new car to his retired teacher C.S. Vastrad during a farewell ceremony at Kumareshwara High School in Hangal, Haveri.

Naveen, a 2007 batch student now working in Bengaluru, lost his father young and faced poverty. Vastrad paid his school fees for years, supported him like a father through post-graduation, and inspired him to succeed.

Naveen called the car a "small symbol" of lifelong gratitude. Overwhelmed Vastrad was moved to tears, saying he only did his duty. The emotional event was attended by over 1,000 alumni.

🚨 A major fire broke out on Wednesday at a nine-storey government building housing the South 24 Parganas Zilla Parishad office in Alipore, Kolkata. Around 4,000 EVMs used in 10 constituencies during the recent West Bengal Assembly elections were destroyed.

No casualties were reported. An FIR has been filed, and police are probing the incident. Fire Minister Kaushik Chowdhury flagged possible sabotage as flames selectively affected upper floors where EVMs were stored.

While the timing raises legitimate questions and warrants a thorough, transparent investigation, EVMs serve as one part of the electoral process with VVPAT safeguards and results already declared.

A¢cidental fires in old buildings are common, but any foul play must be ruled out rigorously to maintain public trust.

🚨 Police recovered around ₹1.77 crore in cash from Harnett English Medium School in Kanchrapara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, during a late-night raid on June 10-11.

🚨 Barkatullah University Renaming Sparks Debate.

Bhopal’s Barkatullah University’s Executive Council has approved renaming it Vagdevi Bhojpal University, honouring Goddess Saraswati (Vagdevi) and ancient ruler Raja Bhoj. The proposal, sent to Governor Mangubhai Patel for approval, has triggered political controversy.

Maulana Barkatullah Bhopali (1854–1927), a Bhopal-born revolutionary and scholar, was a key figure in India’s freedom struggle. He served as Prime Minister of the Provisional Government of India in exile (Kabul, 1915), worked with Ghadar revolutionaries, used journalism and global diplomacy against British rule, and met Lenin seeking support.

The university was named after him in 1988.

Critics call the move an erasure of his legacy, while supporters see it as reclaiming cultural roots.

🚨 In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, a government hospital doctor has been accused of deliberately re-breaking a 14-year-old girl's (mentally unwell) already-operated right leg during a follow-up check-up.

Her widowed mother had paid ₹8,000 of the demanded ₹25,000 bribe for surgery and obtained CMO orders for free treatment due to poverty, but the doctor allegedly continued demanding more and caused severe re-injury when unpaid.

The girl is now receiving treatment elsewhere. Authorities have ordered an investigation amid public outrage.

🚨 A new scientific study estimates that a severe 5-day heatwave in India could cause nearly 30,000 excess deaths nationwide.

Uttar Pradesh is projected to be the worst hit, with around 8,056 deaths — more than double Bihar’s estimated 3,615.

The study (published in Frontiers in Environmental Health, May 2026) by researchers including Piyush Narang highlights that the poor, elderly, and outdoor workers are most vulnerable. It uses data from multiple cities extrapolated across districts.
