Chief Justice of India arrives at the State Capital Itanagar

The Chief Justice of India, Shri B.R. Gavai, arrived in Itanagar today on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh. Upon his arrival at Raj Bhavan, Itanagar, he was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour by the Arunachal Pradesh Police, led by Inspector Jumken Riram.

On behalf of the people of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Minister Shri Pema Khandu extended a warm welcome to the Chief Justice, presenting him with a traditional khada as a mark of respect and goodwill. The Commissioner to the Governor, Shri Pawan Kumar Sain, received him on behalf of the Governor, who is currently on an official tour outside the State.

Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs, Shri Kiren Rijiju, and State Minister of Law, Legislative & Justice, Advocate Kento Jini, were also present on the occasion.

Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Justice Ashutosh Kumar, is accompanying the CJI.

Li-Ning 12th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship 2025 Kicks Off in Itanagar

Itanagar, 9 August 2025 — The Li-Ning 12th Dorjee Khandu Memorial State Badminton Championship 2025 officially commenced today at the Khelo India Indoor Stadium, Itanagar, marking the start of a week-long celebration of sporting excellence. The championship, scheduled from 9th to 13th August 2025, has drawn over 500 participants from all 28 districts of Arunachal Pradesh, along with players from the Sangay Lhaden Sports Academy and Rajiv Gandhi University Sports Control Board.

The grand opening ceremony was graced by Dr. Mohesh Chai, Hon’ble MLA (44-Tezu) and Advisor to the Hon’ble Minister of Health, Commerce & Industry, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, as the Chief Guest, and Shri Laisam Simai, Hon’ble MLA (51-Nampong), as the Guest of Honour.

In his inaugural address, Dr. Chai praised the dedication of the athletes and the organizing team, urging young players to pursue sports with passion and discipline. Shri Simai commended the growing potential of badminton in the state and applauded the efforts to provide a competitive platform for emerging talents.

Organized by the Arunachal State Badminton Association (ASBA) under the aegis of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and in collaboration with the Department of Sports, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, the event promises thrilling contests across multiple age categories. Participants will compete for top honours and the opportunity to represent the state in national-level tournaments.

The championship also serves as a tribute to the late Dorjee Khandu, former Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, whose vision and support played a pivotal role in the development of sports in the region.

With its blend of competitive spirit and inspirational legacy, the tournament is set to showcase exceptional talent while motivating the next generation of shuttlers from Arunachal Pradesh.

The Bichom District Badminton Association unveiled the official T-shirt for the 12th Dorjee Khandu Memorial Badminton Championship. The launch event, held in Itanagar, was graced by MLA Dongru Siongju, who is also one of the key sponsors of the championship, along with Aju Khonjuju, President of the Bichom District Badminton Association.

The championship is scheduled to take place in Itanagar from August 9 to 13, 2025.
