✨Living Fossils of Balasore — Meet Odisha’s Ancient

Older than the dinosaurs, horseshoe crabs have roamed Earth’s oceans for over 450 million years — and Odisha’s Balasore coast is one of their most important homes in all of India. 🐚

📍 Why Balasore?
The gentle, muddy shores of Chandipur, Balaramgadi, and Talasari offer the perfect breeding ground. During high tides, these creatures crawl ashore to spawn, making this coastline one of the last great strongholds for horseshoe crabs in the country. 🌅

🔬 Did you know?
🩸 Their blood is blue! — Copper-based, it contains a compound (LAL) so precious it’s used worldwide to test vaccines and medicines for safety. A single litre can be worth thousands of dollars.

🦀 Not a true crab at all — They’re more closely related to spiders and scorpions than to crabs.
👀 Ten eyes — They see the world through multiple eyes spread across their body, including light sensors on their tail.

🛡️ Living armour — That hard, horseshoe-shaped shell and spike-like tail (telson) help them flip upright, not sting — they’re completely harmless.

🌏 Two species call Odisha home: the larger Tachypleus gigas and the mangrove-loving Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda.

⚠️ But they’re under threat — habitat loss, accidental fishing, and overharvesting are shrinking their numbers. Protecting Balasore’s beaches means protecting a species that has survived five mass extinctions. 💛

✨ Let’s keep Odisha’s living fossils alive for the next 450 million years.

Tell me, if you are from Bhubaneswar, did you desperately waited for it?

📍Ekamra Kanan - Infocity Road via Utkal Hospital, Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar was choking. Especially the Jayadev Vihar area. Will this parallel road finally bring the much needed respite?

Held up for many years because of the Salia Sahi, finally, this road saw the light of the day after many slum houses shifted and then razed to the ground.

The incredible story of the construction of the three Rathas, their design stored in hearts and not in blueprints.

Where each group working on various aspects of the construction does it out of the feeling of Seva or service to the Lord, their families doing the same work for generations.

Odisha never fails to surprise.

There was a time when even speaking the name Hantalguda brought images of fear.

Nestled near the once-infamous Gurupriya Setu in Malkangiri, this breathtaking landscape remained cut off from the rest of Odisha for decades. The Balimela reservoir isolated hundreds of villages, and the absence of roads allowed Naxal extremism to take deep root. Development came to a standstill, and nature remained untouched—but so did the lives of its people.

Today, the story is changing.

With the construction of Gurupriya Setu and improved connectivity, peace has gradually returned. The forests, rolling hills, shimmering waters and serene tribal villages of Hantalguda are finally being seen for what they truly are—not symbols of conflict, but of resilience and incredible natural beauty.

Sometimes, the most beautiful places are the ones that have fought the hardest to smile again. ❤️🌿
