NASA has successfully tested a powerful lithium-fed plasma thruster that reached 120 kW, more than 25Γ the power of the electric thrusters on NASAβs Psyche spacecraft.
The technology still needs major development, but NASA says future nuclear-electric versions could help reduce travel time to Mars.
So, 3 months isn't a demonstrated travel time yet, but it could be possible with a fully developed system.
Would you trust a future spacecraft powered by this technology for a trip to Mars?
