π€π€ Prawn Kola Urundai (Eral Kola) β Approx. 10 to 12 balls Aduppadi Samayal
π§ Ingredients:
π€ Prawns (small or medium) β 250g (cleaned)
π€ Shallots β 6 to 8 (or 1 big onion, chopped)
π€ Garlic β 6 to 8 cloves
π€ Ginger β 1-inch piece
π€ Green chili β 1 (adjust to spice)
π€ Dry red chili β 1
π€ Fennel seeds β 1/2 tsp
π€ Grated coconut β 1 tbsp
π€ Roasted gram dal (pottukadalai) β 4 to 5 tbsp (adjust as binder)
π€ Curry leaves β few
π€ Coriander leaves β 2 tbsp (chopped)
π€ Turmeric powder β ΒΌ tsp
π€ Garam masala β 1/4 tsp
π€ Salt β to taste
π€ Oil β to deep fry or shallow fry
πͺ Preparation Steps:
1. Dry Roast & Powder:
πͺ Lightly roast the pottukadalai (roasted gram) in a dry pan..
πͺ Grind it into a coarse powder. Set aside..
2. Cook Prawns Lightly:
Heat 1/2 tsp oil in a pan. Add prawns with pinch of salt and turmeric..
SautΓ© for just 3β4 mins till prawns curl and turn pink. Cool it.
3. Grind the Masala:
In a mixer jar, grind:
π€ Cooked prawns
π€ Shallots
π€ Garlic
π€ Ginger
π€ Green chili
π€ Red chili
π€ Fennel seeds
π€ Grated coconut
π€ Curry, coriander leaves
π€ Garam masala
Pulse grind without adding water to a thick coarse paste..
4. Add Binder:
Transfer the mixture to a bowl.
Add powdered pottukadalai little by little till the mix becomes non-sticky and you can make firm balls..
Check for salt and spice..
5. Shape & Fry:
Make small lemon-sized balls.
Heat oil in a kadai (medium flame).
Deep fry or shallow fry till golden brown and crispy.
Drain on paper towel.

Donβt overcook prawns while frying or grinding β it can turn rubbery...
