As Per Reports, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has appealed to all state governments to provide free and legal access to private two-wheelers (White Board Vehicles) as bike taxis.

He expressed the view that if such services are allowed legally across the country, new livelihood and self-employment opportunities will be created, especially for the youth of rural and semi-urban areas.

Estimated 8 crore jobs
If private two-wheelers are allowed to be used as bike taxis in all the states of the country, Gadkari estimated that about 8 crore people could be created as job or self-employment opportunities.

The bike taxi system will give youth an opportunity to earn income with little investment. It can also help in the local transport system not only in cities but also in rural and semi-urban areas.

However, while implementing this system, passenger safety, insurance, driver rules and regulations in accordance with the transport laws of the states will also be important.
