மாபெரும் தேவ செய்தியாளர் ஸ்பர்ஜன் சொன்னது:
"நாம் உலக வாழ்வில் சிலுவையை சுமப்பவராக (Cross Bearer) இருந்தால்தான், பரலோகில் நம் தலை ஜீவ கிரீடத்தைச் (Crown Wearer) சுமக்கும்"

சிலுவை மூன்று காரியங்களைப் பிரதானமானதாக அடையாளப் படுத்துகிறது:

i) நம்பிக்கையின் அடையாளம்.
ii) பாவ மன்னிப்பின் வெளிப்பாடு.
iii) ஒப்புரவாகுதலின் சின்னம்.
ஆகவேதான், பவுலடிகளார் சிலுவையை ஓர் கொலைக்கருவியாக அல்ல, மேன்மை பாராட்டுதலுக்குரிய சின்னமாகக் காண்கிறார்.
"விசுவாசத்தால் நீதிமான் பிழைப்பான்"

நான் சேலம் மாவட்டம் டேனிஷ்பேட்டையிலுள்ள பெத்தேல் ஐக்கியத்தில் நான்கு ஆண்டுகளாக பணியாற்றியகாலத்தில் பாடல்கள் பாடுவதற்கென்று உபயோகித்த 1980ஆம் ஆண்டு டைரியில் நான் கண்ட ஓர் வாசகம்:

"அதிகாரத்தைக் கையிலெடுக்காத தலைவன் ஓர் வெத்துவேட்டு"

இது இன்றைய அரசியலுக்கும் திருச்சபை நிர்வாகத்திற்கும் குடும்ப பொறுப்புக்கும் சமூக உறவுக்கும் வெகுவாகப் பொருந்தும் என்பதை உணர்ந்தவனாகவே இதைப் பகிர்கிறேன்.
