𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗷𝗲𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴
Darjeeling, 12 October: Former footballers from Darjeeling, Kalimpong and Kurseong gathered at one venue to relive the glorious chapter of football in the Hills during the 1970s and 1980s. Prominent former players from the region took part in a heartfelt reunion organised on the initiative of veteran footballers of the 1980s.
The reunion, aimed at bringing together players who made significant contributions to the football history of the Darjeeling Hills, was regarded by participants as a special and historic occasion. Among those present were Khare Basnet, Taren Mukhia, Shyam Lama, CK Chhetri, Anil Pradhan, Mahendra S***a, Uday S***a, Dambu Bhutia, Bhushan Gurung, Suren Pakhrin and Balram Rai, along with veterans such as Urgen Lama (Mini) and Suman Lama.
During the gathering, the players shared fond memories of their playing days and recalled unforgettable moments spent on the football field. Meeting old teammates and contemporaries after a long time, they expressed great happiness. According to them, the reunion not only revived old bonds but also offered a chance to once again showcase Darjeeling's rich football heritage.
Concern was also voiced over the current state of football in the Hills. Participants felt that, despite the presence of talented young players, a lack of adequate administrative support, institutional encouragement and the opportunities needed for the growth of sport continues to hold back progress.
They said the gathering was not limited to remembering football's past. It highlighted the need for the concerned bodies to take special initiative to restore the region's old football glory, identify young talent, provide proper training and opportunities, and support the development of sport. With the belief that the experience and legacy of senior players can inspire a new generation, the reunion served as a reminder of the importance of efforts to revive football in the Hills.

पहाडका भेटरन फुटबल खेलाडीहरूको दार्जीलिङमा पुनर्मिलन
दार्जीलिङ, १२ अक्टोबर (निस): दार्जीलिङ, कालेबुङ र खर्साङका पूर्व फुटबल खेलाडीहरू एकै ठाउँमा भेला भई सन् १९७० र १९८० को दशकमा पहाडी क्षेत्रमा फुटबलले हासिल गरेको गौरवशाली इतिहासको स्मरण गरे। सन् १९८० को दशकका भेटरन फुटबल खेलाडीहरूको पहलमा आयोजित भावपूर्ण पुनर्मिलन कार्यक्रममा यस क्षेत्रका चर्चित पूर्व खेलाडीहरू सहभागी बनेका थिए।
दार्जीलिङ पहाडी क्षेत्रको फुटबल इतिहासमा महत्त्वपूर्ण योगदान पुर्याउने खेलाडीहरूलाई एकै मञ्चमा ल्याउने उद्देश्यले आयोजित यस पुनर्मिलनलाई विशेष र ऐतिहासिक अवसरको रूपमा हेरिएको छ। कार्यक्रममा खरे बस्नेत, तारन मुखिया, श्याम लामा, सीके छेत्री, अनिल प्रधान, महेन्द्र सुब्बा, उदय सुब्बा, डाम्दु भोटिया, भूषण गुरुङ, सुरेन पाखरीन, बलराम राई, उर्गेन लामा (मिनी) र सुमन लामा लगायतका भेटरन खेलाडीहरूको उपस्थिति रहेको थियो।
पुनर्मिलनको क्रममा सहभागी खेलाडीहरूले आफ्ना पुराना दिनका सम्झनाहरू साटासाट गर्दै फुटबल मैदानमा बिताएका अविस्मरणीय क्षणहरूलाई पुनः स्मरण गरे। लामो समयपछि पुराना सहकर्मी तथा समकालीन खेलाडीहरूसँग भेटघाट गर्न पाउँदा सहभागीहरूले खुशी व्यक्त गरे। उनीहरूका अनुसार, यस कार्यक्रमले आपसी सम्बन्धलाई पुनर्जीवित गर्नुका साथै दार्जीलिङको समृद्ध फुटबल विरासतलाई फेरि एकपटक उजागर गर्ने अवसर प्रदान गरेको छ।
यसैबीच, पुनर्मिलन कार्यक्रममा पहाडी क्षेत्रमा फुटबलको वर्तमान अवस्थाप्रति चिन्ता पनि व्यक्त गरिएको थियो। यस क्षेत्रमा प्रतिभाशाली युवा खेलाडीहरूको सम्भावना रहे पनि पर्याप्त प्रशासनिक सहयोग, संस्थागत प्रोत्साहन तथा खेलकुदको विकासका लागि आवश्यक अवसरहरूको अभावले फुटबलको प्रगतिमा चुनौती थपिरहेको सहभागीहरूको धारणा रहेको छ।
भेटरन खेलाडीहरूको यो जमघट विगतको फुटबल इतिहास सम्झिने अवसरमा मात्र सीमित रहेन। यसले पहाडी क्षेत्रमा फुटबलको पुरानो गौरव पुनः स्थापित गर्न युवा प्रतिभाहरूको पहिचान, उनीहरूलाई उचित प्रशिक्षण र अवसर प्रदान गर्ने तथा खेलकुदको विकासका लागि सम्बन्धित निकायहरूले विशेष पहल गर्नुपर्ने आवश्यकतालाई समेत उजागर गरेको छ। दार्जीलिङको फुटबल इतिहासलाई समृद्ध बनाउन योगदान दिने अग्रज खेलाडीहरूको अनुभव र विरासत नयाँ पुस्ताका लागि प्रेरणाको स्रोत बन्न सक्ने विश्वासका साथ यस पुनर्मिलनले पहाडी क्षेत्रको फुटबललाई पुनः जीवन्त बनाउने प्रयासको महत्त्वलाई स्मरण गराएको छ।
