“Restricted relays” is a family of devices which enable a counter to the mainstream influencer identity. In a world where the “generic” has lost all relevance, citizen-al aspiration for the “bespoke” has found its way into the content creation & consumption ecosystem(s). In such a reality, the creator-consumer duality might also find an ambiguous middle ground. These artefacts are an exercise in critically exploring methods of communication, and archetypes of relationships, in these fringe “inner circles” of niche influence and consumption.

Exhibited prototypes include a set of “grown”(not fabricated) listening and broadcasting devices which enable a personal circle of influence, through secure & encrypted networks. The multimedia devices are dispersed by the content creator amongst their circle of influence, evading any possibility of corruption of “meaning”. These devices can be considered a metaphorical counter to the universality of content, platform and devices

Participatory signal gathering to construct desired futures, can be a really quirky and inquisitive process. This conceptual scanner is a signifier of an emergent mannerism of preserving memories in form of ambient 3d data. Part of a larger set of speculative media consumption devices:

“Nerving kit” is a set of imaginary artefacts that provoke an inquiry into possible methods and attitudes of news/media consumption. These objects intend to find new, more intimate ways, in which devices engage with their human “wearer”.

Thank you KHOJ for your support.
' More on Pixelated Elephant ' coming soon.

Posted • Khoj is delighted to announce the first four artists who are a part of our digital futures program for this year.

On the eve of 2021, Khoj had put out an open call inviting creative practitioners to think through our digital futures and further our inquiry into the digital realm that we had begun with the Aesthetic Warfare Symposium 2019 with Digital Earth. The catastrophe of the second wave of covid has overtaken our capacities to be functional individuals at many levels; we find our increasingly hyperdigital lives and bodies in unique crossroads with technology.

Today we finally get the chance to introduce you to the artists whose practices have been selected as part of a program that will look into (post)digitality and impacts of technology: politics of data, interface and networked systems at large and their applications, materiality, aesthetics and affect.

The selected participants and their projects are:

Nayantara Ranganthan and Manuel Beltrán who will explore the new aesthetics of transparency, through the framework of the Political Ads Transparency paradigm

Nandita Kumar whose project “Osmoscape” investigates displays and interactive strategies to engage with critical ‘water data’ to stimulate involvement with issues with environmental health

Dhruv Saxena and Praveen Sinha from a4.achaar whose project ‘Pixelated Elephants’ will be a speculative discourse that presents alternative presents and futures of journalism

Swagata Bhattacharyya who proposes a digital game that examines the technocracies and bureaucracies inherent in the dissemination of information

Stay tuned for profiles on each artist and their practice.
