1. Perfectionism - It's good to chase quality of work but if you keep waiting for the perfect strategy, perfect service variation and perfect marketing material, you'll never start. The world is constantly evolving. What is spot on today, is obsolete tomorrow. Start where you are.
2. Lack of self belief- Competent, brilliant people keep self rejecting, while average people persistently invest their time in their goals, learn on the job and achieve! You are capable of handling the pressure and all the obstacles it will present. And if you're not? You'll only learn by doing it.
START.
3. Procrastination-
Making castles in the air and never actually doing it? As your own boss the biggest problem is accountability. Plans in your head are great. Now mobilise the resources and put a date to "ONE DAY".
4. Don't feel 'ready' :
This doesn't mean if you don't have your apparatus ready, just launch anyway but if you keep waiting to know every little detail you will never launch. What you know today is ENOUGH. The more you learn? The more you realise there's more to learn. You can't keep waiting to learn it all before you start.
5. Waiting for the 'ideal' time:
After my tough phase at work/ best friend's wedding/ aunt's neighbour's dog's baby shower... NO! Your current job will ALWAYS have a hustle phase. Even if it goes away for two months, it'll return. Yes you can plan it smartly, but ask yourself if the 'ideal' time is simply an excuse that takes away the guilt of not starting.
6. Over-planning:
STOP. OBSESSING. OVER. EVERY. LITTLE. THING.
The perfect shade of pink to go with your merchandise that you launch 6 months later needn't be found today!
Run your basic A/B tests, sort your fundamentals and START.
You'll anyway evolve this plan once the ACTUAL data comes in.
7. Lack of deadlines:
Set a date. Period.
For everything: R&D, Product, Finance, Model, Marketing strat... Every single thing!
Put a date to it.
