We spent this weekend mapping India’s Women’s Apparel Market. 🔍
Not for a client. Not for a presentation.
For us, because before we step foot in any market, we want to understand the full picture first.
So laptops open, chai in hand, we did what two corporate professionals naturally do, we built a framework. Top-down. Starting from the full market, all the way down to the one category that genuinely surprised us. 🧵
Swipe through for the honest numbers 👉
Here’s what we found 👇
𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟭 — Total Indian Apparel Market
₹9.5L – 10L Crores. One of the largest consumer markets in the world. Still transforming.
𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟮 — Women’s Apparel
41–48% of total apparel spend. Growing faster than the broader market. Fuelled by India’s rising working women demographic.
𝗟𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝟯 — Ethnic Wear
70–75% of a woman’s total apparel spend. A 7–8.5% CAGR projected over the next 5 years. This isn’t a trend — it’s deeply embedded consumer behaviour.
We’re sharing ranges, not single-point figures — because honest research means acknowledging where methodologies differ. Sources are on the last slide.
This is Month 1 of our 18–24 month research journey. We’re just getting started. 💛
