Masoor Dal Kofta
Ingredients
4 people
250 grams Masoor Dal
1 teaspoon garlic ginger paste
1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
For gravy
1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
1/2 teaspoon oregano
3-4 green chili slices
Cooking instructions
1. To make Masoor Dal Kofta, clean the lentils and then soak them for three to four hours. After this, grind the lentils coarsely. The lentils should not be ground finely, coarse grinding gives taste to the kofta.
2. Now put asafoetida in a vessel and make a paste of garlic ginger. Then put the lentils in the vessel containing asafoetida and mix well.
3. Now add garlic ginger paste, salt, chili flakes and oregano. These will enhance the taste of the kofta even more. Now heat oil in a pan and add koftas one by one to fry.
4. When the koftas are cooked from one side, turn them over and cook from the other side on low flame. It will take about 5 minutes to cook.
5. When the koftas are fried well, take them out in a plate. Now reduce the remaining oil in the pan a little and sauté the onions in it. Fry the onions till they become light brown.
6. Add garlic ginger paste with onions and fry for 2 minutes. Then add long slices of green chilli to it and fry for a minute.
7. Now add red chilli, coriander powder, turmeric powder and a little chaat masala. Then add tamarind pulp and tomato puree to it.
8. Now after frying it for 2 minutes, add half a glass of water. Let it cook for 2 minutes. When the gravy is ready, add the fried koftas to it.
9. Keep the gas on slow flame and let it cook for 5 minutes so that all the spices get absorbed well in the koftas. Then turn off the gas and serve hot garnished with coriander leaves. You can serve it as a snack, lunch or dinner at any time.
