The objective of NAI is to highlight the problems which have been plaguing the small and medium newspaper industry for the past so many years. A common platform at the national level was created for the members, to establish personal Contact with each other and have interactions on related problems and ta

ke up the same, with concerned authorities, on a collective basis. With its members (Daily, Weekly’s, Bi Weekly’s Fortnightly’s, Monthly’s, Online Digests & others) the NAI is also serving the national cause of having unity in diversity, in as much as our membership. Is spread throughout the length and breadth of the country, with newspapers-both national and regional- printed in diverse vernacular as well as English language being our associates. NAI aims to encourage and support small and medium newspapers, journals, periodicals, etc., to create innovative sustainable social enterprises and aims to build a just, civil society in India. We focuses on six key strategic priorities that collectively affect the newspaper industry: marketing, public policy, diversity, industry development, newspaper operations and readership. NAI aims to be a network that is inclusive and open, promotes free and independent media and participations and encourages the sharing of experience and knowledge between members. To focusing on the role that the regional newspapers play in the strengthening of our World’s largest democracy. The emphasis would be how the regional newspapers of our democratic institutions with adherence to secular credentials. The strength of our democracy lies in the dissemination of information and these regional and vernacular language newspapers with their reach deep in the hinterland can and plays an effective role in the propagation of democractive ideas and advantages of people power. The NAI, now in its 19th years of existence, being an organization spanning the length and breadth of India. The Newspaper Association of India (NAI) is an Association founded in the year 1993 by Late Dr. M R Gaur of New Delhi predominantly for small and medium Newspapers in the country. The Newspaper Association of India is registered in the year 1993 by the Government of India under SR Act XX1 of 1860 and is headquartered in New Delhi. The State offices have so far been established in Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Mizoram, Chhattisgarh and Pondicherry. Currently there are close to 7000 members spread across the length and breath of the country. It members are from all sections of the press and media, regional & national, vernacular & English and includes Daily, Weekly’s, Bi Weekly’s Fortnightly’s, Monthly’s and Online Digests. Newspaper Association of India focuses on six key strategic priorities that collectively affect the newspaper industry: marketing, public policy, diversity, industry development, newspaper operations and readership. NAI aims to be a network that is inclusive and open, promotes free and independent media participation in the network. It also provides a voice for its member publications and encourages sharing of not just news but also their experience and knowledge between members. It also encourages members to share best practices in the industry to collectively raise the standards of Indian journalism. Newspaper Association of India facilitates the important role the regional newspapers play in the strengthening the World’s largest democracy by adhering in letter and spirit to secular credentials and upholding all our democratic institutions to free, fair and complete dissemination of information. Finally, these regional and vernacular language newspapers with their reach deep in the hinterland can and will continue to plays an effective role in the propagation of democratic ideals as envisioned in our constitution that will empower all sections of the society.

About the Newspapers Association of India (NAI)

Established in 1993, the 'Newspapers Association of India (NAI)' has been a steadfast representative of the grassroots press across multiple languages and regions throughout the country. Guided by its mission to unite small and medium newspapers and media organizations, NAI continues to foster a strong, informed, and ethical journalistic community.

With more than 10,000 active members nationwide, NAI supports newspapers and magazines published in Hindi, English, and various regional languages — reaching millions of readers across India. The Association consistently advocates for the interests of local publishers and works tirelessly to strengthen their voice through collaboration, capacity building, and recognition initiatives.

“Strengthening Democracy Through Regional Journalism”

The 33rd Annual Conference will highlight the indispensable role of regional and vernacular media in upholding India’s democratic values. These publications, deeply rooted in local communities, play a vital role in promoting transparency, inclusiveness, and secularism.
By capturing the stories that resonate with everyday citizens, regional journalism reinforces democracy and ensures the representation of diverse voices from every corner of the nation.

NAI Achievement Awards 2025 — Nominations Open!

The Newspapers Association of India invites journalists, editors, photojournalists, media professionals, and social contributors from across India and the Asia-Pacific region to submit entries for the 33rd NAI Achievement Awards 2025.

Eligible Submissions Include:
- Published news articles and reports
- Video and photo features
- Social and humanitarian initiatives
- Documented agricultural or developmental activities

Entries must have been published or telecast between January 1, 2024, and November 15, 2025.

Judging Process

All submissions will be evaluated by an independent jury panel comprising senior journalists, editors, and subject experts. Assessments will be based on:
- Journalistic merit and originality
- Impact and social relevance
- Ethical and professional standards

The jury reserves the right to withhold awards in categories where entries do not meet the expected standards of excellence. Decisions of the jury will be final and binding.

​'सरकार की आलोचना लोकतंत्र की आत्मा है, अपराध नहीं।'
​जहाँ एक ओर पत्रकारों पर तेज़ी से मुकदमे दर्ज हो रहे हैं, वहीं सुप्रीम कोर्ट से आई इस बड़ी खबर ने प्रेस की स्वतंत्रता पर छाए डर के बादल कुछ हद तक हटाए हैं। अभिषेक उपाध्याय बनाम उत्तर प्रदेश राज्य और अन्य (2024) मामले में फैसला सुनाते हुए सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने यह अत्यंत महत्वपूर्ण फैसला दिया है, कोर्ट ने स्पष्ट किया कि सरकार की आलोचना करना अपराध नहीं है।
​यह फैसला लोकतंत्र में अभिव्यक्ति की स्वतंत्रता के महत्व को रेखांकित करता है।

Important Information for Digital News and Current Affairs Publishers

As a publisher of news and current affairs content on platforms like YouTube or social media, you are required to comply with the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.

While formal "registration" is generally not mandatory, you are required under these rules to furnish details of your entity to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). This includes establishing a three-level Grievance Redressal Mechanism.
