India and Thailand Seek to Strengthen Trade, Investment and Business Links

India and Thailand discussed ways to expand bilateral trade and investment. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal met Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister, Suphajee Suthumpun, at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi. The two sides also discussed stronger business links.

Bilateral trade reached a record $20.93 billion in 2025. India exported goods worth $5.06 billion to Thailand, while imports stood at $15.87 billion. This left India with a trade deficit of $10.81 billion.

NASA and IBM unveil AI-Intelligence Model for Moon Research

NASA and IBM have released an open-source artificial intelligence model called the NASA-IBM Lunar Foundation Model. It is designed to help scientists study the Moon and support future lunar missions. The system can analyse large volumes of lunar observation data. It can also identify features including potential ice deposits, craters and volcanic formations known as irregular mare patches.

The model was trained using data collected by multiple lunar missions. Its dataset includes more than 30 spatially aligned data layers from nine instruments across four missions.

Malayasia Ranks Second in ASEAN digital index

Malaysia has ranked second in Southeast Asia in the GSMA’s Digital Nations ASEAN 2026 report. It placed behind Singapore and ahead of Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippines. The findings were released at the closing of M360 ASEAN 2026 in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia’s Minister of Communications, Fahmi Fadzil, opened the event alongside ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn and GSMA Director General Vivek Badrinath.

The ranking reflects Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, data governance and cybersecurity preparedness. The GSMA also cited the country’s AI Nation 2030 strategy as a key driver of its progress.

UAE Pledges €40 Billion Investment in Germany

The United Arab Emirates has pledged €40 billion, or about $46.4 billion, in new investments in Germany. The move comes as the two countries look to expand their economic and industrial partnership.

The announcement came during UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s state visit to Germany from September 9 to 11. It was his first visit to Germany as head of state. He met Chancellor Friedrich Merz and was received with military honours by President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

Indonesia’s Payments Market Poised to Hit $127 Billion in 2026

Indonesia’s payment infrastructure market is expected to reach $127.32 billion in 2026, up 12.98% from $112.69 billion in 2025, according to Mordor Intelligence.

The market is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of 9.83% between 2026 and 2031, reaching $203.47 billion within five years.

Growth is being driven by the wider adoption of QRIS among merchants and the rapid uptake of BI-FAST, Indonesia’s real-time payment rail. A shift away from traditional hardware towards cloud-native systems is also contributing to the expansion.

Messi Surpasses Ronaldo’s Ballon d’Or Longevity Record

Lionel Messi has set another Ballon d’Or record after being included on the 2026 shortlist at the age of 39.

The nomination makes Messi the first player whose appearances on the Ballon d’Or shortlist span 20 years. He was first nominated in 2006 as a teenage Barcelona player and is back on the shortlist in 2026.

The previous record belonged to Cristiano Ronaldo, whose nominations stretched from 2005 to 2022, covering 18 years.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, the latest inclusion is Messi’s 17th Ballon d’Or nomination. That puts him one behind Ronaldo, who still holds the record for the highest number of nominations with 18.

Sri Lanka Assures India on Security, Signs Three Defence Agreements

Sri Lanka has assured India that it will never allow its territory to be used for activities that threaten Indian security interests. The two countries signed three defence agreements during Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Colombo.

The assurance was given by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who also serves as the country’s Defence Minister. He reiterated the position during talks with Singh, referring to his earlier discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

India Calls for Greater Participation of Women in BRICS Trade

India will work with its BRICS partners to create greater opportunities for women-led enterprises in international trade, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said at a conference in New Delhi.

Access to finance remains a major challenge for entrepreneurs entering international markets. Finding buyers and navigating trade rules can also make expansion more difficult.

India wants to bring its own experience in supporting women entrepreneurs to the wider BRICS business network. Nearly 300 million bank accounts have been opened for women, while around 560 million loans have been provided to small entrepreneurs, with more than 68% going to women.
