Under the banner of “fair trade,” India was pressured, penalized, and pushed to accept unequal terms—revealing that US trade policy often favors leverage over fairness.

The dispute highlights a familiar pattern: strategic friendship in words, economic coercion in action. For India, the tariff war was not just about duties and exemptions, but about resisting a system where rules change when American interests are at stake.
