CS Conversations

CS Conversations DI Conversations underscores the essence of discussions as central to organised growth & development. Over the years, we have pioneered a number of FIRSTS!

TourismFirst is a thought sharing platform, in print, digital and events formats. It embraces the wider picture for tourism in the country, connecting the tourism vertical to developments in national economy, industry, society and culture at large. It underlines the fact that a wide cross section of stakeholders exist outside of hotels, airlines, and travel agents – and brings them into the larger

fold of tourism. It believes that the tourism product of India, what is uniquely India, needs to be identified, nurtured, developed and promoted. It seeks to integrate this product into one seamless experience. TourismFirst believes that Tourism links people and countries of the world. It is a passport to peace, prosperity and goodwill among nations. It fosters linkages in culture including arts and cuisines, and also promotes the world of exhibitions and conferences and unique discoveries of lifestyle through events. TourismFirst brings together the concerns of airlines and airports, hotels and resorts, cities and states, countries and people – as part of the larger tourism process. It represents over 40 years of engagement of our company in this field – the publishers, Cross Section Media, have been leaders in tourism communications holding a number of firsts in the business. We started India’s first ever B2B travel mart, in 1994 and over 18 years, till 2011 we had hosted over 4500 international buyers from over 50 countries worldwide. We brought to India’s tourism industry its FIRST seminar, in 1976; the FIRST industry tabloid Travel Trends Today, in 1986; among others.

Operation Midnight Hammer: Why India Can’t Look Away
by Lt Gen A B Shivane, PVSM, AVSM, VSM (RETD)

Deterrence by surprise strike is a paradox: you stop a threat, but you also trespass the adversary’s psychological red line, making his counter-move almost compulsory. The Fordow bombing showcased breathtaking precision but also shrank the diplomatic margin for error to single digits. In that narrowing space, India finds itself thrust from comfortable non-alignment into unavoidable relevance.
The question for New Delhi is no longer whether to act, but how to shape outcomes.

A Strategic Pivot Amidst Global Turbulence: RBI’s June 2025 Monetary Policy
by Dr. Manoranjan Sharma, Chief Economist, Infomerics Ratings

The RBI justifiably prioritized fostering economic growth for sustained economic development, particularly because of controlled inflation and fiscal space. The effectiveness of these measures will depend on their timely implementation and the responsiveness of the banking sector to the policy changes.

Boeing’s Fall from Grace: A Cautionary Tale of Corporate Greed
by Air Marshal Sanjeev Kapoor (Retd)

Once the gold standard of aviation innovation, Boeing is today grappling with a credibility crisis one that didn’t arise overnight, but was decades in the making.
In its pursuit of short-term profits and Wall Street approval, Boeing underwent a cultural transformation that many now see as the root cause of its decline. The leadership that once comprised experienced engineers and ex-test pilots was systematically replaced with MBAs and finance executives focused primarily on cost-cutting and shareholder value. This shift diluted Boeing’s engineering first ethos and deeply affected its decision making.

Operation Sindoor Success: A Showcase to our Indigenious Weapon Systems
by Major General Jagatbir Singh, VSM (Retd) and Major General VK Singh, VSM (Retd)

Operation Sindoor will stand out as an important marker in India’s journey towards self-reliance in military systems. Indian radars, missiles, air defence systems, drones, counter-UAS technologies, electronic warfare and net-centric warfare systems delivered the results.
No doubt the credit must go to the government for the push and policies given to Atmanirbhar but equally to the contribution of our scientists and both the public and private defence manufacturers for the stellar performance and effectiveness demonstrated by India’s indigenous defence systems.
The systems and technologies have proven themselves in actual combat.

The Challenge of Being Atmanirbhar in the Face of Recent Hostilities
by Major General Jagatbir Singh, VSM (Retd) and Major General VK Singh, VSM (Retd)

Operation Sindoor was not just a response to terrorist attack; it was a statement of intent and resolve. This decisive retort to the Pahalgam tragedy was the result of years of structural reform and strategic investment in India’s defence capabilities. The Indian Defence Forces acquitted themselves most professionally during Operation Sindoor achieving all military and political aims. However, with the current military dispensation in Pakistan, the war is yet not over. For Pakistan, its focus is on India and its revisionist policy endures.

Strategic communication is the new dimension of conflict
by Maj Gen Jagatbir Singh, VSM (Retd)

While Operation Sindoor represented an evolution in our war fighting doctrine showcasing the capability and ability of our Armed Forces. It Is also the first war fought in in a highly informationalised battlefield hence it extended beyond traditional military engagements.

Social media, propaganda/fake news and digital social engineering can be termed as the “triad of disruption.” This persistent threat applies the ubiquitous power of social media and “messages to propagate and fake news utilising professional information warriors to manipulate the masses via the art of digital social engineering.

The role of information, either provided or denied, is an important consideration in military planning and operations. Information is a powerful tool, and can be termed an element of national power and therefore synchronising information programmes, plans, messages, and products as part of a whole of government effort.

India-Pakistan War: Different Market Dynamics at Play, to Each his Own!
Dr. Manoranjan Sharma, Chief Economist, Infomerics Ratings

The India-Pakistan war would have impacted the economies of both countries, just as any war would, whichever country it be. But the impact in the two countries was markedly different; a more prolonged engagement would have also met with totally different results. Let us identify and isolate some factors of considerable contemporary significance in these retaliatory strikes between India and Pakistan for a comprehensive assessment and perspective. And how the two countries stack up against each other in terms of economy.
