HLF-WWK 2027 ANNOUNCEMENT : Dr Uma Srinivasan | Sydney-based writer | Historical Fiction

We are delighted to welcome Dr Uma Srinivasan to the Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers’ Workshop 2027, May 29–June 6, 2027, in Kathmandu, Nepal.

Born in Chidambaram and raised in Mysore, Dr Srinivasan built a distinguished career as a computer scientist in India and Australia, contributing to early work in artificial intelligence and data science.

Her literary journey began with the English translation of her mother’s Tamil novel, Nandinayakan: A Temple Builder. Her debut historical novel, Etched in Gold, spans four centuries and two continents, bringing forgotten histories and creative voices to life. The novel was shortlisted for the 2023 Write It Fellowship by Penguin Random House Australia.

Dr Srinivasan has spoken widely on history, fiction and creativity and is a member of Writing NSW, the Historical Novel Society of Australasia and the Australian Society of Authors. She is currently writing a new historical novel exploring the stories embedded in cloth, thread, dye, motifs and design during colonisation.

HLF-WWW 2027 | Manisha Jolie Amin

We are delighted to welcome Manisha Jolie Amin to the Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers’ Workshop 2027 in Kathmandu.

Born in Kenya and raised in Australia from the age of five, Manisha now lives in Sydney with her husband, son and cats. Alongside her writing, she is a charity CEO and has devoted her professional life to social impact and inclusion.

She received her PhD from the University of Technology Sydney in 2011. Her first novel, Dancing to the Flute, was published in 2012, followed by a range of acclaimed short stories exploring identity, belonging, displacement, and the unexpected ways people find their place in the world.

Manisha is currently working on her next novel. Her featured short story for HLF-WWW 2027 grew from an early chapter of that novel, reimagining one character and a pivotal moment to explore how a different choice might change everything.

Join us in Kathmandu from May 29–June 6, 2027, for a celebration of literature, travel, nature, culture and the spirit of place.

HIMALAYAN LITERATURE FESTIVAL & WRITERS' WORKSHOP 2027 : Faculty Announcement

We are thrilled to announce that Colm Tóibín, one of the world's most acclaimed contemporary writers, will join the faculty of the Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers' Workshop 2027, to be held in Kathmandu, Nepal, from 29 May–6 June 2027.

An internationally celebrated Irish novelist, essayist, poet, and short story writer, Colm Tóibín is the author of twelve novels, including the award-winning The Master and the internationally bestselling Brooklyn, as well as three acclaimed collections of short stories. His first collection of poems, Vinegar Hill, was published in 2022. His work has been translated into more than thirty languages, earning him readers across the globe.

Tóibín is the Irene and Sidney B. Silverman Professor of the Humanities at Columbia University. In recognition of his outstanding contribution to literature, he was awarded the David Cohen Prize for his lifetime achievement in 2021.

We are delighted to announce that Richard Blanco, the fifth U.S. Presidential Inaugural Poet, will join the Himalayan Literature Festival & Writers' Workshop (HLF–WWK) 2027 as a distinguished faculty member.

Selected by President Barack Obama as the youngest, first Latinx, first immigrant, and first openly gay Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history, Richard Blanco is one of the world's most celebrated contemporary poets. In 2023, he received the National Humanities Medal from President Joe Biden. He is also a Professor and Dean's Fellow at Purdue University.

An acclaimed poet, memoirist, and educator, Blanco's work explores identity, belonging, home, and the immigrant experience, inspiring readers across the globe.
