VIRAL CONTENT CREATOR KIM BANAWAN SHOWCASES IFUGAO HERITAGE THROUGH TRADITIONAL ATTIRE
Popular Filipino content creator and TikTok personality Andrea Kim Banawan, widely known online as the "Vampire Queen," recently highlighted her Ifugao roots by wearing traditional Ifugao attire in a social media post that drew praise from followers.
Banawan is a proud Ifugao from the municipality of Mayoyao. She studied at Assumption Academy of Mayoyao and has built a strong online following through her creative content, viral transitions, dance videos, and video edits. Through her social media platforms, she has accumulated millions of views while consistently showcasing and promoting her Ifugao heritage.
In her latest post, Banawan embraced indigenous culture by wearing the lamma and tolge, traditional garments worn by Ifugao women. Her choice of attire reflects pride in her ancestry and helps introduce younger audiences to the rich traditions of the Ifugao people.
The traditional attire consists of two main pieces. The tolge, also known as ampuyo, is a handwoven wrap-around skirt featuring distinctive geometric patterns and stripes. One of the most recognized designs is the ginallit, characterized by its striking black-and-white striped pattern.
Complementing the skirt is the lamma, a short upper garment traditionally worn by Ifugao women. Historically, it was a simple white blouse used to protect the back from the sun while working in the rice fields. Over time, modern versions of the lamma have evolved into more decorative and colorful designs while retaining their cultural significance.
Banawan has become one of the social media personalities helping promote indigenous culture to a wider audience. By proudly wearing traditional Ifugao clothing in her content, she not only celebrates her roots but also encourages appreciation for the weaving traditions, identity, and cultural heritage of the Ifugao people.
